Spammers philshers porn!

Post by Anthony »

Their appears to be a lot of spurious new members with dubious web sites attached to them!

Does any one here feel that profiles should only be accessed by members and not by guests? :?:

Eric,

I was on this afternoon GB time, I saw that their were guests on line and unusually for me I hit the who's on line icon. At least one guest was going through the profiles while another was supposedly writing a message. At this time these new members appeared that have no Pinzgauer interests but links to crap and other rubbish. I thought that all this had stopped for a while. I had noticed that we do not appear to need to log on so often. I also thought that Vince personally vetted them all. Perhaps it is too big a job. I wrote to Vince but i guess he is a very busy guy. It is not a problem at present but is not this how the site collapsed the last time.

Eric if you know how to get in touch with Vince, I suggest that you do it. I suspect that this site is about to go down some time soon. I have received no PM

Anthony
I received a pm earlier today, and got the proper notification.
As for guests here, some members will read the forum not logged in, or are really guests. :D
Though the system is not setup to allow guests to posts... and a member may have just forgotten to log in.
IIRC both times that this site were hacked, it was through the host, and not through this forum.

If Vince hasn't already read this thread, you can send me an email and I'll forward it to him.

Got it

Post by VinceAtReal4x4s »

I got the PM and the email just now. This issue isnt new actually. The guests you see are sometimes just non-members with Pinz/303 interest, as was said above, but are also often spam bot programs/people that are trying to post porn or whatever.

They can't post unless I allow them to be a member but they can sign up and try. Ive tried to stop this in the past but now it's beyond me. Im going to have to pay someone to install the latest "thing" to keep the sign-ups down. I wouldnt worry about the site though. I am hosted with one of the top service providers now and everything is backed up by them more than once.

See, you ask for Vince, and he appears. :D
Erik
Your PMs go into your outbox until the person opens it, then goes into the sentbox. The person receiving your PM needs to be logged in AND read the header to see if they have any new messages, if they didn't check the notify box in their profile.
But after defending the PM system, I must admit that I had PM problem a year ago.

btw Vince, I see you're still using that video of me fishing on the dock as your avatar

Yeah, the lines have gotten fatter, the bird has been replaced by people, and obviously have less hair....but one thing hasn't changed, the hollow head.
