If you attach the ground at the batteries , it would be wise to put a battery shut off switch in the battery box to terminate ground. this way you can kill the ground when not using to prevent unauthurized use and preserve the battery ground shuttoff keyswitch functions.
Breakers on winches are useless
Thanks Jim, I was planning on using the original cut off switch and I was planning to run the cables all the way back to the batteries.
I will assume your perspective on the breaker is that its very difficult to get the most out of the winch in tough situations if a breaker gets in the way?

I took the control box off mine and mounted it under the glove box. It cleans up the front and minimizes the "unauthorized use" issue. It only takes a paperclip to operate the winch at the box..

By the way, here is a picture of the winch bumper we made for my truck. We reinforced the bumperettes by welding 1/8 inch steel inside which converted them from C channel to box section. Then we built up the middle section. The floor plate the winch sits on extends through the front plate and is held by the pintle pin which will take most of the pulling loads.
If anyone is interested in knowing more I can put up some more pictures. My buddy Bob who did the work is thinking about making more or selling plans.
