EFI Kit

Post by Bruce Berger »

Jim,

I wanted to start ordering the parts I need to install your EFI kit. I was wondering if you had a good source for a used VW Type 1 MSD distributor to modify as a cam position sensor?

Why not modify the original distributor with an optical or hall effect sensor and a special cam lobe assuming that you don't need to mangle it permanently?

I thought I'd start mounting what parts I can in the engine bay so when I get ready to do the final conversion it should go pretty quick.

Do you know of clear fuel filters which are suitable as a pre filter ahead of the fuel pump. I liked the Fram G 12-1 filter I had on my truck since I could check for signs of red flake disease whenever I had the dog house off.

Thanks,
Bruce Berger

Bruce, get a stock VW distributor from an injected motor and I'll help you mod it up. Cost effective and easy to do, it also leaves the stock distributor untuched.
There are some good clear fram or similar fuel filters available, you want 3/8" ends.
EMS now has a 4460 that has the same sequential capabilities and functions and uses the same software and mapping as the 8860. It is specifically for 4cylinder engines and is around a hundred bucks cheaper :D
I'll get with you on the tank mod, I have the tone wheel already mounted to a spare pulley 8)
