Has anyone seen this before?
I was crawling around under my toy and one of the axle retaining ring (the part the boot clamps to) is popped loose from the flange that holds it in the diff
It appears that it was never welded or bonded into place in the flange both pieces are clean and zinc or cad plated
I coated it with epoxy and pushed it in place with my fingers and tapped it in the last mm or so with a small hammer and it fits nice and tite
The manuals I have show it as all one piece (pg 24 #7 outer piece in my parts book) the manual shows the assembly being installed in fig 10 & 12 of axle drive section
I have only had the truck 6months and put about 300k on it of the 78000k showing
I have been real diligent about checking around so I think this came out in the last 20k
I appreciate any thoughts you guys might have

Had710, Mine appears to be one piece. In the repair manual section G page 5 fig. 10 it looks like it is one piece as well [img][IMG]http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w205 ... iff001.jpg[/IMG][/img]
I had the same issue with 3 out of 6 on my 712. I would appear the ring was glued into the retainer. I tried cleaning and reinstalling using RTV,lasted one outing. Final solution was to clean,RTV for sealing,and 4 "love" tacks with a MIG to hold retainer in place.This has been working fine so far. Easy in-vehicle fix and I did not have to order any parts!

I've had similar problems over the years with a few of the rings, but personally I find it easier to repair them in place using a permanent retaining compound such as LOCTITE 680.
I've never quite worked out why the factory didn't at least tack or spot weld the ring in place (I guess they were trying for the simplist build with minimim distortion) but the "Loctite" repaired rings have never come apart again!
