Summer has returned - Need suggestions to improve airflow.

It was in the high 80s here in Houston (probably warmer where you are Andy) yesterday so the hot and humid weather Gulf Coast is probably just about here to stay until October.

Here's the question - I've seen photos (here probably) of small auxilary fans that have been added to the Pinz interior to improve airflow. If you've done this, please post details on where you purchased your fan and installation details and suggestions.

I got a 24v computer fan at a surplus store, it is about 4'' x 4'' and just fits between the wiper motor and the passenger grab handle. PM me and I will send you a picture.

I got a 24v cab fan for my Unimog at Napa. It is a little big for the pinz but it is multi speed and rotates. Sold the mog. I got the computer fan for the pinz because the cab fan from Napa was a bit large and I could not figure out where to mount it. In retrospect it would have been ok for the desert.

For power, there is an outlet above and to the right of the gas pedal for power that is controlled by a switch near the flasher control module.

Get two computer fanz,12V,and wire in series. Glue on some magnets and stick "em where u want!
My truck came with a pair of flip open vents which were installed in the lower ft part of the cab(on the angled part) they work awesome,but I don't know where they came from...
Overall I prefer my A/C!

McCall - Don't feel bad, it's going to work its way into the 80s and then the 90s and stay that way here until the Halloween candy is nearly all consumed!

We just carry a spray bottle of water, and refer to it as the "air conditioning". Oh, that and we drive naked. I'd post pictures, but......

It might hit 32 degrees here today.

Nice idea but I'm going to hold off on the spray bottle! By the way, when it gets down to 32F here, they typically close the school and call out the Texas National Guard!

It's 62 F here right now and actually raining. Had 1/10th of an inch last night along with some hail, major winds, and very loud thunderstorms. Radar had two of the thunderstorms showing tornado vortexes, but no damage to any of my vehicles.

Believe it or not, here, even with temps several notches above 100, just having the back and sides on my 710 rolled up and the door tops off makes it very bearable. I don't remove the top from the cab because the little bit of shade it gives is nice and I keep the divider panel down because it helps keep some of the ranch road dust out of the cab.

That may not work in the asphault jungle because of the heat radiating off of everything, but it works fairly well here.

Andy - I figured you'd be chiming....

In the summer, when it's 90+F with 90% humidity, you'd be nuts driving a Pinzgauer in downtown Houston in anything more than shorts, a t-shirt and flip flops. (I guess driving a Pinzgauer in Houston looks ridiculous enough.) The idea behind adding a fan is to create some incremental air flow even with the sides rolled up and the door tops removed.

Don't you put on your "city clothes" when you head down in to Del Rio for Mexican food at Julio's????

I'll report back to everyone once I get the "eBay fan" installed to let you know how it worked out.

By the time I get to where I force myself to go to town, I really don't care what I look like. Not that I don't like going to town, it's just that I spend money on stuff that I think I NEED and don't.

Julio's chips are good and we use the seasoning, but nobody can make enchiladas like my wife.

Actually I've considered a fan, but it just seems that it would have to move quite a few feet of air per minute to do any good.

I thought by now Tony would have chimmed in. He installed the electric cooling fans from an import cars radiator system on the wire mesh seperating the passenger and cargo area. I think the fan was in the neighborhood of 18" across. A simple trip to the vehicle wrecking yard should provide a nice inexpensive fan. I don't recall him complaining about the noise level or any adverse conditions related to it. Just another option
