This is the route to the last feeder of the day. It is quite a long steep hill. Several of the guys who lease the land for hunting have torn up there jeeps trying to make it back up. With the Pinz it's just put the transfer case into low, lock up the front and the rear, and give it a slight amount of gas and she idles up.
Andy,
Great pictures! Pictures are deceiving--I bet that climb is a lot steeper than the pictures show. The ride down is probably more exciting! I have a trail on my feed route that I only go up and never go down. The back tires come off the ground on the way down and it is no fun.
John, I know exactly what you are talking about. On the east side of the ranch there are a couple of steeper but shorter hills that are that way. One, if I don't have at least 20 bags on I will take the long way around instead of going down. The rock on that side is just too loose and there are too many steps in the hill.
No, this hill IS steep. I stuck my tractor down in the bottom once (came in the loooong back way) and had to walk up to get a cell signal. Since that day it has been called SOB hill, because by the time I was about a quarter of the way up that's all my mind was saying.
That sure looks like Gods country. I can't wait to head out there. I love West Texas.
John we are leaving Wed. the 23rd around 6pm should be there early on Thurs. will contact you when we get up and around on Thurs.

Shawn, yeah, it's pretty neat being out here. If I really need to hit Barnes & Noble or Best Buy, San Antonio isn't all that far away.
What's amazing is just how many different kinds of critters live out in this stuff.
I know people have to be whizzing by on 90 tsk, tsk, tsking, about how desolate or lifeless it is and they don't have a clue. 15 or 16 miles north of this ranch there are black bears along the Pecos. Last year I had a doe killed, inside a feed pen, by a mountain lion about 3 miles north of where these pics were taken.
In the first pic, you can't see much of the road because it drops off sort of quickly, but if you look hard you can see where it ends up in the upper half of the pic.
If you would like me to pick up something for you I will be in town in the morning let me know what you would like and I will bring it to you when I come out.
Thank you,
Shawn Fluitt

Shawn, not sure if you are talking to me or not. I'm good, I'll probably have to go to San Antonio to Academy in the next week or two. Real busy now. I have about 9 miles of roadside I need to spray and the sprayer leaks. I'll probably have to run to Lubbock or Edinburg and get a new one that runs off of a PTO.
They are hooking up a generator to a well Friday, I have a water trough that needs the float and arm replaced, and I have 4 food plots to disc and seed, so when the well works we can irragate them. I was going to spray fertilize them, but I guess I will have to use pellets. With the water hooked up that will be okay, I guess.
Call me when you get close. Maybe we can go to lunch or something. Don't for get the Bass Pro Shop on I-10 also Sportsmans warehouse is on 1604 just east of 281 they have a pretty neat store. Don't know what you are looking for but there are a few suggestions.
If we don't hook up here call me when you go to Edinburg I go down there regularly. I will be down there this weekend for a golf tourn. for work. Not to bad they have a bbq pit on about every 3rd hole all of them on goose neck flat beds. 3 Ice chest on every hole and 2 golf carts with trailers with mixed drinks already mixed!! If you leave hungry or sober it is your own fault.
Thank you,

Bryn Pinz, It is pretty if you are tired of concrete canyons and traffic jams. Yesterday there was a lot of dust in the air, but usually after a cold front some frontal passage when you are on top or the ridges like that you can see the mountains in Mexico. They aren't quite the Rockies or the Alps, but they are still very pretty. I've seen many a postcard sunset out here.
Erick, it's only green right now because it's spring time and about 10 days to two weeks ago that ranch had about an inch and a half of rain. The native vegetation here has become very efficient in the use of moisture. Give it a couple of months with the light rain we've been having and it will all be rust brown. The short vegetation goes first. Not only does the sun cook it, but the heat reflected off the ground also gets the plants. It was 93 F at 6:55 PM this afternoon.
Also, the pictures a looking down into a draw which gets all the run off when it does rain and things grow a little better down there.
Andy,
Any green is nice! Right now it is 35 F and we have a chance of 6-8 inches of snow and 50 Mph wind gusts through tomorrow night. I'm ready for spring!
John, I'm planting tomorrow because we have a 30% chance of rain. I hope some of what you are going to get will make it here. I hope the seeds get a little rain and take, my old fanny can't hack 7 hours on a tractor too good any more.
John, are those turkeys in the corral? The picture of the highway would be enough to keep me put for a couple of days. I've had quite a bit of experience in snow, I trust me; I just don't trust the other folks on the road.
At the house, that same night as your snow, we started out with hail. What a scramble to get everything possible under a roof and to get the dogs in. I ended up with one of those 6 inch rains. That's where one drop falls about every six inches, semi packs the dust and the storm is over.
Across the Devil's river from one of the ranches I take care of, the one I put food plots in. They got rain. They also got a lightning strike that as of last night burned over 5,000 acres and was moving into another ranch that is mostly high fenced with all sorts of exotics on it. At least there are very few building out there and the wind laid somewht.
