Pathfinder recovery vehicle tonight

Post by Jerbearyukon »

A friend phoned me tonight on her sons behalf. It seems he got stuck way up the mountain on the weekend (well that's what we do. We are MEN...or as my wife says "you are just boys with hairy legs" :) ) ...she's so funny, but she's coming around.

Several attemps to recover it with his buddies failed when the recovery vehicles got stuck trying to get in where he was  . His mother had phoned around to some friends and one of them mentioned that he had ridden in mine and thought I could maybe help out (well duhhhhhhhh). I just sit by the phone waiting for the darn calls   .

So I picked him up and his girlfriend decided she wanted to go too. So they piled in. Well you know the routine. Lots of comments on the Pinz  but we love it don't we......well I do anyway :) .

We get to the turnoff and we round the corner and they both told me how surprised they were at the ride...so smoooooooth. I locked her up in four wheel at the base of the hill....lots of mud and snow. We climbed and climbed until the snow started to get firm again. This road is used exclusively for four wheelers and snow machines in the winter and now PINZGAUERS 8) .

We found some spots where the ford 4x4 and a sub had got stuck and then dicked around trying to get unstuck but we just continued on. Then we got to where they wouldn't go any futher so I gave her a go. We had to go up a long hill with a pretty steep but steady grade. The main part of the road is ok, but the shoulders are soft and about 3.5' of snow there. So keeping her in the hard pack is key, but not so easy to do really.

We got up as far as I could in 4 wheel so I pulled the rear locker and started again. slowly crunching through the snow trying hard not to spin the TRUXUS.

Near the top I had to pull in the front diff lock. We made it over the incline and onto some flat ground and he just couldn't stop talking about her. "man gotta get me one of these" he said and "YUP" was the only thing I could reply ..I was thinking of when I was growing up in Kamloops BC and how this would have been so coooool to have back then.

A few more hills and deep ruts where somebody had got stuck with another truck earlier and we made it to the truck. It was buried pretty good, but the superwinch made short work of it. Had him out in under 5 minutes and then we found a place to turn around...that is fun with no power steering and down the hill we went.

So far I have pulled out a Ford Explorer a Toyota 4 runner and a Pathfinder and most of the comments are "what the h_ll is that thing". So we will have to see how the spring and summer go. Should be able to add to the list.

Can't wait to go to some of the lakes that are inaccessible to most people around here cause of the mud and terrain. Their are a few places where you can catch and release so many fish in a day that you are actually tired of it...yes tired of it, but then there is that rise just over there.

I have fished here until 3 and 4 in the morning (with all of our daylight in the summer) and you just don't want to quit. I have actually fell asleep in my belly boat when I have been flyfishing too and woke up on the shore bobbing around like a kid bobbing for apples

We are getting into our other season here called "poor sledding" which is followed by the only other season we have which is called "winter".

The weather cahnges here so fast that there is no real spring or fall...REALLY

Can't wait for the ice to go now :)

Maybe int he future I can get one but right now I am busy building my internet business so I can get a residual income going...then it can pay for all the toys and set me free from a JOB

So:

Did you get my message before...That pin for the fan switch - does it just slide up inside from the back and you tighten the knob on to it??

The yellow wire on the fan came off when I was painting (didn't notice it right away) and I can't see where it came off anywhere...any ideas

thanks

Hi Jer,
On my vacation I discovered that the rest of the world has spring already! The trees were covered in these wierd green things they call leaves. What a shock to come back to McCall and find that the snow has only receded a foot. You saw my yard- a foot of snow less doesn't make that much of a difference! How are the Jackson guys doing? Any dirt yet?
