Valve Adjustment

Post by SAM. C. »

Hi All

I have just adjusted my valves which were all a bit tight. I replaced the covers and used the original gaskets as they look almost new.

My question is do I have to balance the carbs now? I am sure I have read somewhere that I do. Is this simply because the linkage gets disconnected and could mess things up or is there a more technical reason??

Cheers

I am not a mechanic, but I do know that valve adjustments can change vacuum in an engine. This could throw off the syncronization of the carbs slightly. If the engine runs different you may have to adjust the linkage (syncronize carbs).

After valve adjustment in addition to carb balancing checking timing is also necessary. The small change in valve clearance will affect the timing of effective firing. Can't hurt to check plug gap, & Air filter condition also while the engine cover is off. All these elements contribute to a good running motor. This is pretty true in all older carb engines with manual valve adjustment.
Just get in and go....
