I do know this is a dumb question, but I don't know the answer.
How do I know which one I have?
I always assumed that I had the upgraded ingition, but it now appears to me that there are many variations on the theme. What do I look at to know?

ignition
when i got my pinz the previos owner had about distroyed it because of a bad mil. spec cap. the cap was cross firing and the miss and backfire on excelleration was taken by him for a carb problem. after reduceing the carbs to a collection of stripped and missing parts he went to the either step.this killed the ring gear . i guess i should like the mil. set up because if not for it i would not of snagged my pinz from a totally befuzzled owner. on the take down of the carbs i was wondering what was missing and where that thing used to go etc. so i bought a well used but complete set up . the guy also had a well used civy ignition (complete distributop with pertronics, civy cap, and wires)that i picked up. the only problem that ive come onto was the wires insulation from the pertronics was worn and a little heat shrink fixed the intermitant dead pinz. this could happen with the points wire on mil. style just as easy.i sealed the cap to adapter joint with household grade clear silicone(much easier to break the seal and still keeps the water out. )ive been through some storm filled washes that sane people would cringe at the thought of and no problems yet. because of the remote places that i frequent i would vote for the civy set up with a spare pertronics(i have since picked one up ) because of the ability to get the dead truck going again from bubbas repair shop in bumfuzzle,nowhere .the mil. set up is great as is anything else but not sogreat to find the "get you home " parts when where your at everyone looks like the deer in the headlights when you say "pinzgauer"

Another dumb question. Could I have the military cap and still have the electronic ignition? If so, how would I know....

In reading Jim L's posting in regards to noise suppression, he stated that carbon-core wires are better than solid-core wires.
