In 2005 I discovered that while my Pinz got decent gas mileage on the road the safety, mileage, comfort trade off of towing on a trailer far outweighs any investment in improving mileage or comfort.

I now now tow my Pinz to off-road destinations. This results in minimal wear and tear on the drive train and tires. Now that I tow, I find myself trying more difficult obstacles. Needless to say, I have a winch on the front of my trailer. It has never been used to pull MY Pinz up yet but one of these days. I have towed home a few less capable and reliable vehicles however.

When I drove my Pinz instead of trailering I had one tank that I was darn close to 20 mpg. The next fill-up was also nearly the same MPG so I don't think it was a math problem. Now I measure my mileage in gallons per hour. Well worth it still. A fill-up will last a few outings of being towed to events and the comfort and safety make up for the investment on any long haul.
If you didn't get stuck, you didn't try hard enough.

Interesting replies on the psi. sketch. Thanks to all. More than a little confused.
At present I have decent set (10% ish worn) of Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A tyres on. As previously said, a little twitchy at the back end if going round a corner like a tram on rails ! I DO try and avoid doing that too much though !

I realise it's a trade-off twixt better mpg and better grip.

MMMmmmmm.. scratch scratch !!

Deutz is making air-cooled diesel engines, if anyone is interested, or better said skilled enough.
