Another adventure in the Yukon backcountry

Post by Jerbearyukon »

All I can say is WOW :D . PINZ and a PULLPAL and there is NOTHING going to keep you from going most places  .
Image
(THIS IS AL - DOES HE LOOK LIKE HE"S HAVING FUN) and that's what's left of the mirror.... :)

We went scouting for moose in an area that is just spectacular. The road/4 wheeler/goat/horse trail goes to an abondoned mine. The maps we had were very old, but we GPS it and we found the trail head. It is so overgrown even 4 wheelers don't go there anymore, but the PINZ, well all I can say is they can have their 4 wheelers.

A good winch and a pullpal and your good to go and you will stay dry too. Lost a mirror though busting bush even when I had it facing the front window, but a branch caught it a pulled her around to the side window and poof she was shattered. So we stopped and took of the drivers side one and put her away until we hit the highway again.

The willows were so overgrown and huge - 1-1/4" some of them so we bulldozed our way in. There was only enough room to keep one track on the road and the other in the bush period. By the time we got up to the mine my Pinz was camoflaged in yellow, orange and green leaves  .

Again the pull pal came to the rescue 8) . The boggs were many and the trails were running with water and tons of Moose tracks (wish we would have stayed for a week there) but it's early for calling and the bush is so thick you will need to call the bull out.

We have had an extremely wet summer hence my webbed feet. This has made the back country very difficult to get to. What we went through stuff that no normal 4x4 would have made it - they are just too wide and there wheelbases are too long and they don't have DIFF LOCK BABY :D .

AL the fella with me was just amazed at the pinz's ability. This is truely and amazing vehicle and you add a good winch and bumper and the pullpal and you are set. We had to cross this bridge with the wrotten wood everywhere, but with al's guidance and my going slow and shittin' bricks one tire on the outter most board where there was steel under it and the other on the steel in the middle of the bridge I got her across. I decided to take to the creek on the way back.Image

We had walked down the old cat trail and it was overgrown real bad, but the moose rubbings were plenty and lots of fresh beds. We walked for abouit 1.5 miles and on our way back we started hearing bells and I though some outfitters horse had got loose, but it ended up being two german hikers. We talked for a bit and they were headed way in to camp and take photo's.

They had left some branches in the pinz door handle to let us know they had been by us. They brought a subaru in a ways, but the branches just scratched the s$$t out of it so they stopped and decided to hike the rest of the way in. Image

We would still be there without the pullpal though. We had to winch coming up the hill out of the creek. The bogg is so soft with all the rain we were at the tops of the tires all the way up the hill. Finally we got stopped and dug down.

Out with the anchor and she did her job once again. Now we were way in the back country and we are coming back on this overgrown trail (NASTY) is the only way to describe it.

I wish I could get the creek xsing video in here but it's too big for the photobucket. She was like a bulldoser pushing the trees over and then we dove into the creek and bounced over some HUGE BOULDERS and across we came :D :D

Anyway - I bent one of the aluminum mud flaps in the front and tore off a mirror but that was it...oh and of course I scraped off some paint, but that's why I bought it.

Good day Jerbear

I just hope that someday I will be able to go on a ride with you, of course with my own Pinz.

Jer, another good story. It sure looks like fall is there already. You should see if pull pal will sponsor you or let you do endorsements and commericials. It will be another good story when you get your moose. Have fun, and keep the green side of the truck up.

yipper it's fall alright. Yeah Denis it would be fun but you are going to have to come here ok...tee hee

Andy I just want to poke one with a sharp stick this year, but it was about 9 days early. The trip was fun though and always is.

How's your hunting going? I am getting geared up for the Monavie trip now. Going to be a hoot. My sister is coming up from Florida too.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and things are going great. If there is anything I can help you guys with please feel free to ask ok. If you get a group together I can even fly down to see them for you.

Sweet. Remarkable how similar the area looks to here. Looks like your leaves might be a couple weeks ahead of us. The elk are just starting to bugle and rutt. I love this time of year!

Jer, our bow season doesn't start until Oct. 4 and I'm busier than a one legged man in a fanny kickin' contest filling feeders for the hunters. Frequent rain here now is good for the land and will fatten deer up for the rut, but does nothing to help me get around to the feeders. Our country looks like spring time right now. Grass here has gone from brown to crotch high in a month. Makes it hard to see the rattlesnakes too.

On the Monavie, it works great and is going fast here. We are trying to get some to my brother who lives in San Antonio and has a potentially larger market area. Unless the economy totally tanks, I think it will keep growing, so with any luck (and a little work) maybe we can hit a conference/seminar next year.

My hunting starts 1 November. Me and daughter # 3 will be guiding again and it looks like the freezer will get at least 3 does this year. I don't do bucks since they translate into $$bucks.

Good luck on your moose with the stick and string. Take pics and post some more stories.

That's the great thing about monavie - even if the economy tanks could people come up with 240 bucks a month to be free...I could some how.

It's the power of a community of people working together instead of how we all do it individually.

How long would it take you to pay off a 300,000.00 mortgage by yourself -probably never do it, but what if you had help from 100 or 500 people.

Man it would be done in no time..oops I will pm you ok
