Maloya Tyres - speed rating?

Post by psychoman »

Hi All

Quick question and apologies if its been asked before but there are loads of tyre related questions... but can anyone tell me if the standard 245 Maloya tyres are speed rated? I can't see an obvious reference on the sidewalls...?

Thanks

Are you asking how fast they can go or should go? Those tires are dangerous at speeds over 50mph in my opinion. Get some modern radials... they are safer at all speeds compared to the Maloyas.

The vehicle needs to go through our local testing process and one of the things that they look at are the tyre speed ratings. In time I want to change these over to something more modern anyway, but if I can avoid the extra cost in the meantime so much the better.

Thanks

p/s - See separate post - Pinz has come home!

MOTs are a real treat from what I've heard from others. And here, people think Ca DMV laws were difficult.
You're the first I've heard that an inspector asked about speed rating on the tires... more times it's been tubeless tires on tube type rims. Were all your lights changed before you got it? or did the inspector nail you on those too, or missed that? (which I'd find hard to believe).
Anyway, you will want to get rid of the Maloyas before the rainy season.... Maloyas on a 712 are very democratic on a wet road. On a turn, they will take a vote, and it will be 4 to 2 in favor of going straight.

Okay - all comments about the original tyres accepted! I do need to replace them at some point... but in the meantime - anyone know the answer re the speed rating? Were these commercially available tyres or produced specifically for the military Pinz and hence no markings?

Thoughts?

SPEED rating for Maloyas? That tire performs best at 0mph... preferably with the engine off... and the keys removed!
