GPS Accuracy
GPS Accuracy
First of all, I wish to appologize to all of you for my lack of computer skills. I am about as computer savy as a rock. I don't know how to post pictures, direct others to different web sites, hell, I even type with two fingers. The reason I tell you this is because, sometimes, I find something which I think might benefit some of you out there but I don't know how to relay the info to you. Anyways, here is the point I hope to convey to you all now... I came across an article pertaining to the possibility of the degrading accuracy the GPS system. It can be found on the homepage of azgeocahcing.com. I've been offroading for some twenty-five+ years now and I've alwasy used topos and compass, don't have a GPS but I know alot of you guys do. Hope someone can benefit from this piece of info... Stevo
Here ya go.

It's easy to post web addresses. Just highlight the address in the top bar on your screen, right click and copy it. Then come here, right click again and paste it.
Thanks for the information.

Stevo,
It's nice to hear from somebody who's got comparable computer skills to mine. No apologies neccessary.
I own an old Garmin Rhino 120 model. It's very nearly coal-fired, it's so old. It has some rudimentary maps in it's memory, but I'd have no idea whether it can load in others by computer (probably so), and even less interest in doing so. I too rely nearly totally on maps.
But I do like the Garmin for it's "snail-trail" feature; wherever you go, it records a trail. That way, if I'm ever lost back-country, I can find my way back. I've only needed it once, but it came in very handy that way.
The other aspect of it that's nice, is by comparing the snail trail with the map, I can usually identify exactly where I am on the topo maps. This helped on unmarked trails.
I'm hard pressed to imagine that the satellite issue won't get resolved, there are too many people lost without their GPS nowdays. But I'll keep using my maps, just as long as they're still printing 'em!
