I may have shared this before so bare with me if I have...
I keep the 712 covered and parked on the street by our house (corner lot). I have people stop by all of the time when I'm outside to ask about it, give me a thumbs up, request rides etc. Recently, the Houston Police Department has been stopping by to tell my wife or kids that they've gotten an anonymous complaint about the Pinz because it looks like it's being "stored" there.
By now the cops know that I drive it regularly and I keep it covered to protect it from the sun...but the complaints keep coming. The cops of course love the Pinz.
I'm tempted to post a sign by it in our lawn telling whomever that if they have a problem with it, they can knock on our door and talk to me directly about it but that even seems a bit extreme.
So my question is whether anyone else out there has ever had something like this going on and how did you thoughtfully deal with it?
A story that even the Wisconsin guys will appreciate!

Well, speaking not just as a Wisconsinite, I must say that I simply don't see what some others find so darn offensive (or whatever) about Pinzgauers in particular, and ex-military vehicles in general.
The only problem I envision with your proposed sign, is that it would perhaps predispose folks to complaining, by seeing that it is apparently such an issue that you've taken to putting up a sign. How about an educational sign, explaining about the truck and it's history?
A friend of ours has a cabin on Washington Island, just off Wisconsin's Door County peninsula. He once had a "historical marker" sign made up, using the same colors as Wis. uses, about an old Willy's jeep which sits in a farm pasture. It was totally tongue-in-cheek, listing it as being on the National Register of Historic SUV's, important in island heritage - especially the back seat, etc. It was a riot. He planted it in the middle of the night, and within 2 weeks it was a stop on the island's tour-train.
The more fans you can make, the better your luck, IMHO. The truck's got the eye-candy covered, the rest is up to your imagination. Good luck.

Cute idea but perhaps velvet ropes and highly polished brass stanchions surrounding it on each corner might let the neighbors know that it is "special".

Dave,
Before getting cute and taunting people ( not that I would know someone who'd do that
). Check the city ordinances regarding parking on the street to make sure you aren't in violation of any first. Then go down to the local LEA and ask for the watch commander, and have "incident" reports or numbers handy( all calls receive some type of number), also take some pics of the truck and your location and explain what is going on. The WC may be able to give you some helpful hints, or maybe flag your address so the next time a call comes in, the call station can explain that it's been checked, and there is no violation.
The second option, I like less.... put a sign on the side of the 712 that says " CALIFORNIAN , GO HOME"
I really don't like that option, as I'd like to see the liberal numbers diluted and some sanity return to the government in this state.... aaaaahh, what a wonderful dream
