Excessive fuel consumption - What to check first?

Post by audiocontr »

Truck runs ok, timing is set, carbs are at the best i could manage (1.75 turns of the set screws/idle is good/flow is matched at 10), but man does it suck down fuel! My green pinz gets significantly better mileage and seems like it has much more power even with the high speed transmission.

What should i check first? Float levels? Any other causes to check?

Check carbs , if fuel is dripping onto throttle plate at idle(read as high float level due to damaged needle seat or loose float screws), replace any leaking float valves, use the thicker (1mm)washer . Once the excess fuel is gone, it should sync out between 6-8 Kg/h @850-950rpm on the tool .

Timing is set to 9 degrees. At ~900 rpms, the gauge reads at 10kg/h. If I back out the throttle plate screws, rpm drops, and unscrewing the idle mixture screws doesn't seem to compensate enough to get the gauge to 8 and maintain idle speed.

Suspect in take gasket leak?
