What to do with old windshield

Post by edzz »

OK so now that I’ve finally installed the new windshield that David convinced me I needed (I know he was correct, just seems a shame to remove a “perfectly good” windshield).

Now the question occurs to me, is there anything I can do with the original tempered windshield other than break it up and put it in the trash. If I weren’t preparing to move l would probably save it to use on top of a table.

If anyone wants to pick it up for free (must promise it will never go back in a window frame) let me know soon.

To repeat this is an original tempered windshield that is not safe for street use.

Trash it !
It isn't worth anything... it can't be cut. What you see, is what you get, and if it breaks, it's in tiny pieces.
It isn't needed for a pattern either.

If someone needs a windshield,
The glass size is 62 3/8, 57 1/2 x 19 1/16.
If a glass shop can't figure how to cut one from those dimensions, find a different shop
If you're close to me, I'm confident it'll be difficult to beat my pricing

Good idea. Or, you can always mirrorize it (they still do that?) to attach to bathroom wall or back of bathroom door, or whatever (don't recommend it on ceiling above bed, due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control).

get a nose from Linden Eng. that he s cutting up, install the glass and make it wall art.
I have the entire nose with front windows off of a 56 VW Bus hanging in my garage.

You'd easily spend 3x the money to have it silvered than just have a new mirror cut to size. Plus the original 35 year old ws probably looks like it had been cleaned with a brillo pad all its life.... glass scratches easier than people believe

Gee, the money people will spend to make use of a "free" windshield

I know, I know, food is so cheap in America that nobody needs to grow their own...some people must do it for fun etc. So my suggestion is: A hinged lid for a 'cold frame' (Is it called that in USA? - coldframe...a kind of warm box to put seedlings/delicate plants in until they are grown a bit).

I think it's already in the recycling bin.
