clutch replacement

Post by westernair »

My clutch is getting a bit soft and I know it is time to replace, Having never done a clutch on a pinz I was woundering if there was a technical artical out their somewhere I can refrance when doing it.
Also I have heard a clutch from a 733i is cheaper and stronger then a stock clutch.
I found this one on ebay, is this what I need? is there anything else I need?

Thanks in advance for any help with this

Clutch is easy 2-3 hour job at most did mine 2 years ago. My buddy had a clutch from his that the original owner changed because he thought it was soft(he had been told it was very recent). But after the new one went in it felt the same so he saved it. I blew mine when the pressure plate side grenaded. I put the used one in and it worked fine and I put quite probably close 7-10K (miles)on it before I sold the truck and it still felt great. I know you've been driving pinzi for a while so if yours is on the out changing is easy. Drop the cardon shaft and drop the transmission(about 40-50lbs real light). The BMW clutch will fit but if your replacing the throwout bearing you'll need the pinz specific one from one of the dealers.

you also need a clutch alignment tool. I got a gm($5) one at autozone and the splines were a bit tight 2 minutes with the dremel and it fit nice and smooth.

The write up in the manual was pretty good. I had never done a clutch before and my only tricky part was getting the clutch for and spring to stay together.

Here's one write up I found:
