Tgb11 insurance and registration Q's
Well, we're looking at roughly a month away from getting our Tgb from Sweden!
WOO-HOO!
I'm in NY state, and was wondering what other drivers do for regiastration and insurance, Pinzies included.
Looked into possibly a historic vehicle permit, but it only allows 6000 miles a year driving. (How do they keep track of your miles?). I'm also calling our regular insurance company tomorrow, (home/auto), what should I say, (or not say), to them about what it is, or what I'll use it for?
Calling Hagerty today also.
Any suggestions, tips, cautions, etc.?

Geico insured my TGB-13, so I'd imagine your 11 shouldn't be a problem.
Re: Tgb11 insurance and registration Q's
It seems to always be on a case by case basis. Never use the term "military vehicle". Like a small 4 wheel drive van or SUV should be the extent of your description. I have State Farm here in NY. at stated value.

Well, we have Allstate for our car insurance. I called our agent and talked with her about it. She Googled the truck, saw the camoflage, and said no.

She suggested Lloyd's of London! Guess I gotta swith insurance companies now.

I go through AAA and insure with american collectors insurance agreed upon value. I have done my fj40, Unimog 404, Pinz 712M and TGB1111 without a problem. Not sure but my AAA agent is great and I just can send him a few photos he sends to them and have been insured on the those vehicle for about 6 or 7 years. they're out o NJ I think. I'm limited by my mileage function shows, cruise nights repairs but haven't had a problem or a claim yet. Hope that helps.

It DOES help, thanks. We've been long time customers of AAA, just never thought of them for car insurance.
Re: Tgb11 insurance and registration Q's
I was offered American Collectors but passed because they were too restrictive. You wouldn't be covered off-road and as stated you have limited mileage and usage. You also have to prove (photo) you keep your vehicle garaged. $$ was cheap but not what I was looking for. It's really for classics and show cars.

Who is?You wouldn't be covered off-road
Seriously, does anybody here have coverage for damage incurred while off-road?
Thanks
Re: Tgb11 insurance and registration Q's
Yeah, as long as it happened on the way to or on the way back. Does any standard SUV have off-road coverage?
If one is able to get it back on the road before reporting it you might stand a chance. The outlay of money to have a
vehicle towed back to civilization is going to make you cry.
I think that is a good reason to not go alone.

Now, isn't that why God made license plates removable? The outlay of money to have a
vehicle towed back to civilization is going to make you cry.

Hagerty's can go for $125/year with replacement and general liability coverage. No one is going to cover a 4x4 off-road that I know of and don't ever mention you even take it off-road, regardless.

Re: Tgb11 insurance and registration Q's
Pretty much you take off road at your own risk and the insurance is for road driving as required by law to drive on the road. I haven't any ATVs insured. Mainly just want to be protected from a car on car collision, theft or fire. I wouldn't put a claim in for off road bruising and that would be regardless if it was a pinzgauer or a new jeep rubicon.VinceAtReal4x4s wrote:Hagerty's can go for $125/year with replacement and general liability coverage. I know lots of people who use Hagerty, and Grundy as well. The main reason for going with a company like these is agreed upon value for a vehicle which has no blue book value and isn't driven every day to commute to work. I use my car as a hobby/enjoyment vehicle and as such it isn't subjected to the insurance risk of a normal car even though the loss value is higher. The insurance company view on it is its someones prized possesion that they will take care of while driving. I don't want to pay for my vehicle again in 5 yaers of insurance costs to insure it complety from any type of loss with a company like loyds against anything that could happen to it.

Just again, I had Geico insure my 304, I even mentioned it was a military vehicle, they said no problem. Just to say it.
Re: Tgb11 insurance and registration Q's
I have had Farmers for 25 years. Insure everything with them. Had a super agent in San Diego, I would tell him what I had, never an issue.
Here in CO it is another story. My policy reads 'other American vehicle' no matter how many times I have tried to correct it. Not trying to correct
it anymore...must be their thing. Do not wake the sleeping giant.

Well, I'd like to know just how you went about this, Doccers. I just called their 800 number and was practically laughed off the phone!Doccers wrote:Just again, I had Geico insure my 304, I even mentioned it was a military vehicle, they said no problem. Just to say it.
I never said the word, "truck".
I never said the word, "military".
I never said the word, "Tgb11".
I said it was a C303 civilian vehicle.
Once they Google a picture of it, they're gone like a fart in the wind........
Our local Allstate agent, who insures all our family cars, is, "looking into it", with other underwriters for us.
I'm getting nervous here.
