While going over my truck today, I discovered that my plate bulbs weren't on. I opened them up an found one that appeared to be blown but the other seemed fine. Do both need to functional for them to light up? If not, is it hard to trace these wires?
I am not sure if they have been out for a while, or if the heavy rain I went through knocked them out. I am thinking the former.
On a positive note, the truck is running fine again. Regardless of the civi adapter plate covering the weep holes in the dizzy base, I think moisture still gets in there....and my wiper motor is not shot!!
Yup, on any negative-ground vehicle, the chassis will typically be your ground. (Some older machinery is positive-grounded.) Your circuit is from the positive 24v being supplied through the wire, through the device like your light, and negative grounded via the chassis.
One lamp terminal should show zero ohms to ground, and the other terminal should have 24v when turned on. If either is not present, the bulb will not illuminate.
I did all of the inside lights, panel, instrument, and license plate with superbright LED bulbs in my K.
All the panel, instrument, and locker lights had to have the bulb dome lopped about in half with a dremel cut-off wheel to fit. The map light over the glovebox fits without modification. The mod for the panel bulbs is easy to do (did not see that prior thread though, but that is what I did). All mine are white but my lenses were not faded so they look normal.
License plate lights were the bright white and they are indeed very bright stark white as in the photo above.
The interior I originally did with the bright whites. I found the the color temp was just too ghostly stark white so I moved them to the blue fixtures and put warm white LEDs in the front, middle, and aft clear overheads - much more pleasing color cast and more like the original incandescent bulbs.
Best of all they don't heat up the fixtures if they are on for a long while. The Austrian refurbs probably use a different o/h fixture (Hella 1357) than the Swiss, not sure about license plate lights (mine uses a festoon style bulb), so I doubt my bulb numbers are the same.
