Joys of removing bed liner

Spent a fun Canada Day long weekend removing the bedliner from the inside of my Hafi.
So far I am about 8 hours in and 90-95% done.

Next is to wire brush every where and then either POR-15 or Rust Bullet the whole thing before I paint it.

Looks good. You are lucky that whoever coated it did not blast prep the surface first. Looks like it pulled off a lot of the old paint. Are you going to strip the paint off the body?

Yes it came off well (and easily) - could have been much much worse!
Outside body panels have 2-3 layers of paint (original, yellow and red). Plan is to remove the red (brushed on coat) down to the yellow which seems to be on there nicely and looks to be an tough paint. (don't see much point in going down to bare metal on the outside body?)
Most removable items (battery box, spare tire holder, tool box, bumpers, sides, rear seat doors, front seat frames etc etc) will be going for media blasting and priming.
Thing I really need to figure out is what color to paint this thing!!
The green one I just sold - many people liked that color - said it looked tougher than my red one but it was just some random camo green.
I am leaning towards not painting it an original color as they only came in 3 choices and they are all pretty bad IMHO (NA Pathfinder - pale sickly green, plain old beige or an off white). The Canadian model came in red but I think I am done with the red color.
Thinking Swiss army green but I then don't want it viewed as a mini Pinz - so I was thinking about trying to find out what color Canadian camo is or it was suggested a dark forest green perhaps?
I am open to any suggestions!

Love the free labor from the girls! When my son was younger and I was still restoring 1-3 vehicals a year, I would have him do things like rewiring under the dash or doing spot welds on panels. From that experience he was able to draw out a set of plans, create a material list and build his go-cart.
After buying the materials for the frame he cut all the pieces, layed out a tape template on the floor and built it himself. I did very little of the fab work just helped him when he had questions (he had just turned 10).
Teaching your kids how to do technical work now will serve them well later in life.
I say paint it UN gray and get a set of magnetic UN signs for it.

With the frequency we see bed liner used to cover up rusty metal it makes me wonder if there isn’t a good market for some sort of POR-15 / bed liner mix, i.e. rust inhibiting bed liner.

Looks like Your “free” labor is doing a great job, likely doing a better job than larger hands would be capable of, great family project.

Wonder what a dark blue Haflinger would look like.

Let the kids paint it as they have done most of the hard work cleaning it! You would get a custom paint job then for no extra cost!

I think mine should come off with some red pads and the right air tools.

I did say you would get a "custom" paint job, I never said what it would look like! At least you would never lose that 3 wheel thing with that paint job...

Actually, I have a heinkel 150 which was painted red and then had glitter thrown all over it! (It call "Mr. Angry" for some reason)

Paint it what ever colour you want, you are the one paying for the paint and the one who has to live with it. Every body else just has to look at it once and can then turn their backs on it for ever more.

We have a few Ilti in this neck'o'the'woods, too. In Canadian multi-drab they look pretty boss, but I've seen a few attempts at civilian-izing them.. and its always a bit of a horror show.

Less "modern Type 181" and more "rolling Waste Management dumpster."

I'm thinking of going Ford SE (Aqua) or Ford BY (industrial yellow) on my Haflinger. Not a fan of the "Gunge Green" my Pathfinder was from the factory.. and less so of the pale Tweety Bird yellow it is now..

I would imagine that a needle scaler would be great for removing bedliner

The metal underneath looks nice and straight! Mine looks like someone was hauling boulders in it..
