Sometimes it a bad thing!
I purchased a 73 712, only to find out it was an 83 when sold to a gent in California. It too was mislabeled for import. It makes no difference for East Coast folks. Its a HUGE deal for California owners.
Scott from EI was able to assist in getting it through the CA DMV. Thank goodness for Scott!

But did your have a modified data plate?
I assume yes which is illegal vs just a later registration date.

For some of you newer members, you may not recall that the Wisconsin DOT threw all Pinzgauers off the road back in '07. Cancelled titles and registration, saying we did not meet FMVSS, blah, blah, blah. Different issue, but during that fiasco I learned some things.
Import fraud has occurred, and probably still does. State DOT's communicate, and many DMV administers belong to the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators. So they're all pretty much savvy to what's going on. Any recently issued titles coming into Wisconsin from the "title mill" states are investigated and prosecuted. There is definite concern over "grey market vehicles", such as Pinzgauers. At least some states can confiscate a vehicle with an altered VIN and destroy them.
I've been pretty involved with the fight and ensuing legislation here, and I do not believe that many Pinzgauers in the U.S. have had altered documents or VINs, at least no more than any other particular make. But after what I've been through, if I did have anything fishy, I'd be pretty quiet about it.
Be glad you're in Paraguay!!
Audiocontr,
Also, kudos to Scott for taking care of the problem.

That is why i moved down here!! I used to live in Florida... Here is a interesting fact that you guys maybe dont know: 15 years ago(i wasnt here) you can bring a stolen car from Argentina or Brazil and legalize it,!!! Those countries doesnt have cross-reference records (those days), so insurance fraud were on a daily basis., Brazilian people came to the border, sell you the car for pennies and claim insurance...but untill now, those cars have a special kind of registration so you cant drive it out of Paraguay
