Insurance?!
Re: Insurance?!
I just bought my Pinzgauer (yesterday!
). All my other insurance is through USAA, so I called them and they insured it, no problem. It wasn't in their computer system, so she just filled in the blanks.

Re: Insurance?!
Truly, I do not expect to have insurance cover my bad decisions either...but, there is the unexpected. Perhaps one of those 'Hold my beer' moments by a random participant in a flurry of dust.
I also have mine for mostly on road issues. I have a propensity to drive a bit slower than the majority of traffic. If my brakes fail and I hit a Mercedes full of lawyers...

Thanks! I'm in Denver. Picked up a 1973 710M. It's been neglected for several years and will take some time to get it road-worthy, but I'm excited.EmbarkChief wrote:Congrats Fentonite! Where are you located?

Fill in your location in your profile (we won't remember where you are) and start a new thread and post some pictures for us - we love to see new owner Pinz pictures!
Welcome to the forum!
So back to insurance...
Just for the Canadian side of things, I have my Hafi insured via a Collector Car Program.
Costs me $251/year for full comp and Liability coverage with the following restrictions:
1. Can not drive it to work or as "regular" transportation
2. Can not drive more that 5,000km/year
It does not need to be in a garage or covered, no restrictions on where or when I drive. For me it works out well.
As it basically covers me for any and all pleasure driving and I doubt I will ever get close to 5,000km/year

Re: Insurance?!
Thanks for all the replies and input guys. I'm in CA and I have Farmers! That's aggregating. They also insure my Ouse and three other automobiles for me.
My agent did text me on Tuesday telling me I'd have coverage within a week. But it's thru another carrier they work with.
I did try hagerty but just like others, mine won't be stored indoors all the time and its definitely going offroad.
Thanks again! Taking the Pinz wheeling tomorrow with a few other rigs to have an outdoor thanksgiving in one of our favorite spots. Can't wait!

Re: Insurance?!
I know others got covered by Farmer's here in Washington state, however my Farmer's agent won't cover my 712.
Even though I have all my other insurance (home, 6 autos, umbrella etc..) with them (never any claims), they won't do it.
I think someone here gave good advice the last time this subject came up:
When the agent asks what kind of vehicle that is (and they will),
DON'T show them a picture and DON'T tell them it's an ex-military vehicle.
It's a European SUV. Period.
Once that ex-military info is out there, it's a no go. I could only get AAA collector's policy very similar to Hagaety's, but when it comes to -no use "off-road",
the agent tells me the definition of a "road" is anything that is labeled and shows up on a map Nothing about "paved" or "improved". That opens up a lot of trails and Forrest Service roads around here.
And when it states you can only drive to "club events", well, no Pinz club in this state, but since where ever I park it, it gathers a crowd, that's an
"event" to me.

Re: Insurance?!
An event can be stopping at a gas station and answering questions.
No pinz club...start one. Or join Northwest Overland. http://www.northwestoverland.com/ There are pinzies there. I'm a member here in Denver.
They will accept anyone that likes adventure. Great group. Last year I went to the Overland Expo in Flagstaff, great time.

I really like the guys at Northwest Overland and have even been on a few trips and more than a few monthly brew meetings!
I even got Andre to post there and hopefully he can get some projects from them on his upcoming trip.
He was warmly welcomed by the group.

I really miss those brew meetings, great group of guys.
One of the guys was here in Denver (Dan) and we met up at a local house and chatted a bit. Met up with him at OX last year as well.
