Forum issues

Post by VinceAtReal4x4s »

Hey guys, I've been working pretty much non-stop, deep in West Va. filming a documentary film about the big chemical spill into the river system there for the last month and a half. It looks like the forum started having issues near the same time I was getting back home. I just had my tech guy look at it and he fixed it but we had some data loss (not much). Hopefully it is ok now but there could still be a few hidden issues or lost posts. If more pop up, I will try to get those taken care of as best I can.

Back to relaxing and getting familiar with my own bed (and G-wagen) again. It hasn't been started for 6 weeks... not good.

Hey Vince.

If you ever need assistance, I am can lend a hand. I have run two PHPBB forums in the past and familiar with most of their issues. I also do IT for a living.

Just throwing it out there. :D

EDIT: I checked via the Way Back Time Machine and was able to see a snapshot of the Board Index for Feb 7th 2014.
No threads or posts removed from the Pinzgauer technical (old) sections (numbers all match)
All other forums show more posts and topics today than Feb 7th - so... perhaps just the # of posts per user got messed up?
Did something like this happen a long time ago where a lot of info was lost?

Tapatalk is still popping up ghost unread posts for me.. Mostly related to the for sale Hafi in the UK and the recent Hafi motor.

Noticed this today - says no posts but all the posts are there - so perhaps the User post count is just messed up and nothing has been lost!

This board was hacked 3 times that I remember. A lot of info disappeared.

I've lost almost as many posts as Jim, but I'm still in #2 position :) ...now behind Morris?? :?

But like in "Person of Interest"....the machine consider it irrelevant

I ran two phpBBB forums and I am not sure how they could be hacked (or even why this forum was target targeted) if the software is up to date and precautions are taken. I usually updated the forums once a year, and full backups were done once a week at least.

I am NOT slighting Vince at all, I am an IT guy who sits behind a desk all day and involved in these "types" of things daily.

I would like to help if I can.

Perhaps Vince could let us know how the site is hosted and how often it is backed up.
I would hate for it to crash or get hacked again and loose even a part of what we have all built here.
I am a mod over at BenzWorld and a couple times a year users ask if all of the mog info/archive is safe. With that site it is 'corporately owned and operated' so we have zero control - they do back it up daily and have redundant servers hosting it - here Vince controls everything - the domain, the site, how it is hosted, updated and backed up so we can ask him.
Cheers,
Dan

Ahhhhh, it makes sense now. I tried to join this forum a
little before that and didn't get a response for over a month!
I thought the forum was defunct, except I saw newer dates
on posts. It was the second attempt to join that worked.
(thus the name Pinz710m2). It makes sense now.
