Pinz in "Pacific Rim"

Post by GenevaPinz »

I watched "Pacific Rim" on a long haul flight the other day, and I'd swear there is a Pinz in this movie...
It was only a fraction of a second, but at some point when the heroes disembark a helicopter arriving in Hong Kong, there is a vehicle that I do think was a Pinz with no top, doors or windshield, a bit like this but painted green: http://www.defencetalk.com/pictures/sho ... hoto=13937
Don't rent / download this movie just for this as it is a very, very short sighting. On the other hand, do rent / download it if you want to watch big robots fight godzilla-like monsters, it's the main topic of the movie.

This is the pic on the imcdb.

It isn't a BAE as suggested, nor a 716 or 718.
It is a 712T . Working with the photo to bring out some detail. You can see the 3rd axle’s tire, the first 2 axles are too close together for a 4x4 (710). The engine’s doghouse is too short. The fuel filler is also too close to the back of the door opening for any of the TD models. The cage also seems to have been modeled after a Supacat WMIK or HMTs ( Jackal or Coyote )
The tires appear to be 9.00 x 16

The line drawing of the Jackal has me wanting to try to sweet talk the factory out of one.

Thanks for digging up and brightening up the picture, David! It is on screen for a fraction of a second in the movie, much easier in this form.

I was hoping for Scott to come out of the woods with plenty of build pictures, but I guess he would have done so a long time ago if it was his work, as the movie was released last summer.

I had seen the site one day hunting for my unobtainium manuals and the dark photo didn't fit with what was being written.

I'm not a movie goer, but would suspect it was a UK production company or shot there... not that I care... give me something where the "special effects" are acting and a story

Sad when the highlight of a movie is a vehicle, or a _____.

I saw that and thought it was a Pinz. The movie was a bit far-fetched, but entertaining.
