Great photos!

Do you have a website where the photos can be viewed in greater detail? I purchased a 1976 TGB11 former firetruck with the intent of using it as a moblie billboard for our Urgent Care facilities. The truck gets driven across the state of Oregon on a weekly basis. I have yet to be able to convince the owner of the company to move forward with the idea. I know he will be impressed with the Red Robin TGB1317.

I was also impressed with the desert rock crawling photos of the TG1111. My brother has one and plans to bring it up to Northwest MogFest 05 this summer.

Take care.

Jim
Once finished it will be shown on our web site which is undergoing some revision. We are featuring a concept vehicle page showing some of our past and current "renditions" including the Red Robin Truck, The 712 DK Pinzie (Mason Truck), a LR Soft top Events Discovery MK1 (private customer) and a Merz G Wagon refurbishment for a project to show what can be done by our staff and my newest coachwork/structures recruit Daniel a graduate from Wyotech.
Nice to have on board a new young face, lots of ideas and his creation in the works, a new tube replacement frame exo skeleton chassis arrangement for a Haffie that will carry 6 occupants in belted safety.
Anyone looking for a clone LR Defender 130, its also coming.

Dennis,
Nice to hear from you. I knew you were working on that truck for Red Robin. I still hold out hope I can convince my boss to utilize my TGB11 fire truck as a rolling bill board as well. Photos of the Red Robin truck just may do the trick.

Any chance you may be able to make it out to Oregon for NWMF05? We are sure to have at least a half dozen Unimog dealers including Freightliner for the new trucks. Sure would be nice to have some representation of someone who deals with the Volvos.

Take care.

Here it is as delivered. Apparantly this one is no longer headed to Bandemere Speeday, but is going back East to the Corporate Headquarters and will be shown on NASDAQ when Red Robin Debuts itself on Wall Street.

Red Robin C306

Post by Roy Gardiner »

Hi Dennis,

Are those standard wheels chromed, or special rims? What make/size are those tyres?

Nice paint job - pity about the torn driver's seat! - there's always some fly in the ointment!.

Thanks for the excellent pics - something for us amateurs to aim for....

The Bling Factor.

Thanks for the positive postings on our concept truck. Sorry for the late postings on this, but me and my family were in "zee ol country" visiting friends and family for a wedding in my native leafy Gloucestershire. We then took off to Turkey (Olu Deniz) with a bunch of fellow Brits for Sun and Sand!
Nice to rub shoulders with my crazy boozy, fag smoking countrymen!

That truck pics covereage you see is a big thanks to John (lighteningpinz) for all the reporting he did as we put that thing together on a fixed budget. The outcome we thought was very positive especially since the truck is in NY for the launch of Red Robin on the Nasdec.

Putting these types of projects together for a government or in this case a corporation is never easy since from the onset you are dealing with a commitee or a beaurocracy! The project took us three months to complete.
For those interested we encountered hidden corrosion and bodywork "nasties" but given the budget we did the "bling thing" that can attract the WOW! Very important for an advertising vehicle.

As for the comments from the guys so far.
The seats are from a 2002 BMW Roadster. The rip you see in the seat was actually where the computer wiring came out for the seat control, simply put there was no cash in the budget to get them repair done by installing a new skirt to the seat frame.

The wheels are standard Volvo. We chromed them by seperating the centres from the rim, chrome plating the two components , and then welding up the loose parts and rechroming the bare sections.

The Thornbird tyres:-To be frank, I haven't a clue how they are off road. They were chosen for the "wow factor" and simply put they fitted nicely into a budget given for tyres, wheel spacing, and overall gear ratios.
Frankly this truck's only off road forays will be onto the grass at racing car events in Colorado. Having said that, the nobbly tread should afford some degree of additional traction in mud given its foot print.

As a positive note we are to do a "remedial" where some more cash is to be put in the kitty to rectify the things like the rip in the seat skirt. You see the President of Red Robin liked the private presentation he had in the Tech Centre in Denver, so I suppose we will be busy once again.

If anyone out there needs for information on this or any of our other conversions simply send me an e mail. I will be more than happy to answer any other questions.
Best regards to all

Linden Engineering's Haflinger special

Post by Roy Gardiner »

Be very interested to see pics of your new guy's Haf special when it's up and running Dennis.

I had a succession of Haf's in the 70's, using them for UK All Wheel Drive Club trials and speed (!) events - even did an overnight Hill Rally in a LWB fibreglass cab variant - misery with ineffective screen heater in the November frost but I did finish - eventually!.

Then built my ultimate Haflinger - a racing buggy, made an extended (24") Haf backbone and prop (high ratio hub reduction gears of course)and fabricated an adaptor for a 2 ltr Fiat Twin-Cam engine. Topped off with a chopped-down Beach Buggy bodyshell on a shortened bug floorpan.

Happy days - before school fees and mortgages changed priorities!.

Fell over a lockable Haf diff (that I kept in case a Fiat Panda 4x4 came by) and brand-new gearbox casing in the garage the other day - let me know if anyone needs them, also still have a complete Haf workshop manual and parts manual which can go to a good home.

Making space for the C306!.

Roy
