It's embarassing

that I worked for Customs for over 17 years and really don't know much about duties etc. That's the civil/admin side of the house and all my stuff was criminal. What I do remember is it goes by what the classification is. They have a whole silly and complex code where things are broken down by categories and then sub sets. With Pinz parts it would probably depend on whether it's classified as a truck, the country of origin, and a whole bunch of other details.
This might be a case where at least once it would be easier to seek forgiveness than to ask for permission.
Given what the dollar is worth compared to euros I wouldn't want to be subject to that VAT stuff either.

You don't pay VAT if parts are leaving the country to the US. I buy Haflinger parts from Austria and Scotland with no problems, however make sure if you are buying Bushings they are listed as such. I got a call from customs early (5:30am)one morning asking me what kind of "bushes" were in the package , after explaining the Brits use that term for bushings and feel free to open the package, they released it and it was only delayed by 1 day.
Parcel post takes about 3 weeks from anywhere in Europe, and UPS is around 36-48hrs to the west coast

Living in Europe I have to pay import fees whenever I get parts from the USA and/or Australia
