parts from germany

I found this supplier of parts in Germany from a thread on this site. Has any one done business with this person and if so can you tell me if it will be an experience I will enjoy?

I am trying to find an OEM passanger side door seal for my 710M and none of the parts dealers that I have contacted in the states has them in stock and does not expect to be seeing any in the future.
Any help will be very apreciated.

OK, Just wanted to be sure, I thought that you may have possibly been referring to Tom. I have not bought from him personally but he is a good chap I feel, he works hard and gives a good service I am told. he has endeavored to make his web site multi lingual and easy to use. I have had private conversations by PM a number of times as he contributes occasionaly on Robi's Pinzgauer site which I am also a member, his English language is not very good but it is comprehend-able.

The only time that he he got a bit uppity was when some one suggested that Pinzgauers were better when they came via Switzerland compared with Austria, Tom gets many of his Pinzgauers from places other than from Switzerland and he took great exception to the comment. All his vehicles are very well prepared to a very high standard. he is very open and I believe honest and unlike some Pinzgauer outlets his full address is given on his web page.

I believe to the best of my knowledge that he is safe and reliable to buy Parts and vehicles from. He has a very good reputation and I have not heard otherwise.

I was hoping for just such a reply, parts are a curious beast and some seem elusive. As far as his writing the English, he is much better than my German...so he is ahead.
Thanks for your endorsement. I am always amazed at this electronic world and that I can write to a person on the other side of the planet, even if we have never met.
I am not familiar with the import taxes and how I get the parts from Europe to the US. Is this going to be a problem? Usually money solves many issues.

Well transport of goods works just fine US to GB and because we have more ore less the same European import laws etc also to the rest of the EU. How it works the other way around I cannot say, I presume that you have import taxes and some restrictions perhaps but others do it so it should be OK. One good thing for you is that you do not have to pay VAT Value Added Tax running @ 17.5% in GB but even higher in some other EU countries by agreement.

AFAIK, there isn't an import tax on something that is for personal use. If you were going to re-sell it then, there are taxes. There really isn't a difference between you going there and buying it and bringing it back from a tax standpoint. He should just be able to put it in a box and send it. That's my fuzzy recollection.

McCall Pinz, are you sure there isn't a Customs Duty (import tax) on some stuff even if it's "personal use?" I'm only asking because years ago my Mom would order stuff from the Old Country for Christmas and stuff and I remember her complaining about the duties. I dunno, maybe the law has changed. Hope so.

No, I'm not 100% sure. When I moved to Switzerland they wanted to tax my bike upon entry and when I told them it was personal they said it was OK and didn't tax it. The Swiss customs wanted to know that I wasn't going to sell it there. Then when I moved back, the US wanted to tax some household items that I'd bought and when I told them it was personal stuff they said OK too.
Before I posted I looked at an online bike shop in England that sells to the US and they posted this when calculating shipping to the US-
"This is a Tax free country or area as it is outside the European Union "
You're right though, I'm not 100% sure though.

I've purchased lots of pinz part from europe and had them shipped here to the states, I have never had any issues with import tax.

It's probably different in the US and Europe (incl the UK ) but in Australia, Customs don't usually bother if the cost of the item/s being imported is under $500 Aus .... above that you will get a customs, etc bill!
