Have you checked the timing? My distributor collar wasn't holding the dizzy on tight and it was shifting on me.

Hi Recon,
I had the same problem a while back with my 74m. After carb rebuild, fuel pump rebuild, new gas tank, Jim L advised checking the molex connection and bingo. I just cleaned it and it ran like new. would be worth a try.

Where might one locate said molex connection?

Here you go:

Remove the 2 screws that hold the plug retaining strap in place and then gently wiggle and pull the plug out. A small wire brush, an old toothbrush or preferably a Dremel tool with a wire brush can be used to clean the contacts.

Also check the back side of the contacts; often that is corroded as well.

Happy that it worked for you. I wish I had asked before I did all those things to my 710m. I Now check the molex every few months just to be safe.

The molex connector seems to be the mother-in-law of the Pinzgauer world.....aging and prone to failure, the cause for so many problems.
Since it comes up often in posts, and is commonly unknown to new owners, I nominate the above picture for the technical section.

Maybe along with the picture a short or maybe long explanation as to what this connector connects and does and how it might affect everything else

That information is already posted in the old archive section complete with pictures and re route for power output wire

.
It takes a little searching, but it's there.

I have the same symptoms described by recon113. I initially thought it was a fuel problem as the vehicle was idle for several months..I thought water in the fuel..So in addittion to all the things suggested to recon I also changed the fuel filter and drained the fuel tank.....Unfortunately I did not experience a remarkable recovery from cleaning the molex connection ....i am searching for the explanation of the molex function ..but aside from that ,I am stumped.....anybody know of a mechanic familiar with the Pinz in the Seattle area?

That was my big issue when I lived up there. Could not find anyone 'familiar' with the pinz mechanics to work on it.
Had to come to Denver.
