A pink Hafi (

) would cause a stir in public, probably for all the wrong reasons!

Engine cleaned, checked, seals replaced etc etc and other than waiting for a Helicoil to arrive for one of the exhaust manifold bolts - Done (well I still need to do final paint in engine bay and then I can get it running)
This week was about 70 hours of work
Oh and a few parts to paint still (oil filter cover and fan) and engine tin to install and ... on and on it goes

I am new to hafi and pinz, but I see from your pics a real similarity to VW air cooled engines.

Purdy!
What did you end up using to paint the intake manifold?

You are correct - Dr. Porsche looked over Ledwinka's shoulder and 'borrowed' a few ideas when he designed the VW engine

1. new manifold

2. coated it with High Heat VHT spray paint (had left over after doing exhaust manifold and muffler)

Dr. Porsche "borrowed" a lot of designs

So.. Did you bake it in one of your BBQ rigs, or are you going to cure it with engine heat?

Only Pork, Beef or Chicken goes in my smoker !!

Engine heat will be fine

About 1/2 way through tin-zinc plating bolts, nuts, washers, small springs, seat brackets - anything steel I can find it seems

Change of plans!
I just popped off some parts that have obviously never been removed from my Hafi and found that is was not Birch Green after all (even though there is some green under the bedliner).
Sooo.... now that I purchased the Birch Green it is time to purchase L281 Grey-White!
(ignore the beige stripe in the middle - I was testing)

Paint it what ever colour you like - your the one who owns it and has to live with it! We just have to look at it once in a while and can always turn away from it!
I also gather that the paint code you mention is not QUITE the correct colour - although a lot of Hafi's apparently have been painted with it.

I would like to restore it to 100% original so that is why I am changing the color (even going with Single Stage paint)
What do you mean the paint code I mentioned is not quite the correct color?
From what I know 71-72 Hafi's for NA came in 3 colors only
L511 - Birch Green
L285 - Grey-White
L275 - Light Beige
If I am incorrect or if you have more information I would love to hear it
There was a red that came into NA and Canada but that was not part of the colors for the 'official' NA 700AP Pathfinders.

Hi Dan,
It is very possible I have my information / knowledge mixed up as I had not known that there were 2 pale'ish colours (the beige and the grey) or that maybe that there were different colours for the American market.
I just remember reading about paint codes being slightly wrong and that they were referring to the pale coloured Haflingers. I think it was over on the Haflinger .com forum. I think one of the people involved was Constantin which is probably why I thought it would be correct.
I would try taking a scrapping of the original paint to someone who can match it - that way you would be certain to get the original colour.
