Seats...Again

I recently came across some "modern" military seats on eBay that looked promising in my eternal (or infernal) quest for the perfect driver and passenger seats. I don't dare call these perfect but so far they're the best suited for me after trying many others.

They were variously described as "MRAP, HMMWV, M923A2, M1078" and a few others but what caught my eye were the dimensions, the cloth and the ease of reclining. They are made by Land Systems OMC and appeared under 2 different part numbers, R0083451 High Back Left Hand with recline handle on right and R0083452 High Back Left Hand with recline handle on left. I couldn't find any sellers with one of each so I had to order 1 from one seller and 1 from another seller. The left handled one fits perfectly on the drivers side and the right handled one is great on the passenger side. No interference with doors, seat belts or anything else. I was able to use the original seat belts too.

They came with nice fore/aft sliders but by removing them and then modifying the original seat frames I was able to keep the seats as low as possible and the drivers seat still travels with the original frame. The seats are very firm and the cloth is a non-slip ripstop olive green fabric.

I find them very comfortable and my wife approves also (so far).

The bad news: they are pricey at $175-200 each plus shipping.

Those look real nice. Price doesn't seem as bad as some of the racing seats people have been using.

Looks great - any idea on the seat cushion height compared to the originals? The military cred would be worth using them.

I did a quick search and these come up on Gov Liquidation sales - there was a lot of 12 that went for $1000 and a lot of 6 that went for $350. I suggest we watch out for these and work it out as a "group buy" type deal. Should be even cheaper that way...

The seat cushion height is about the same as these are at the front edge but a bit higher at the rear.

Hi Paul,

Great find!
Any chance you have pics of the " modification " to the lower track to get them to work?

Thanks!

How hard are they to mount/unmount from the truck? Do you have to remove the headrests to do so?

I have some one piece back and headrest seats (from a Toyota Supra, I believe) and if it was 1/4" taller I couldn't get it in or out of the passenger side with the angled front hooks as the headrest has to just fit into the top of the windshield to get the hooks to release (the drivers side is much easier, as the front just slides into place). I may have to make the passenger side work the same as the drivers side.

Just an observation here. PC has always got some of the best looking Pinzes around.

(Now where's that little clappy face?)

Here's some photos of the seat frames. The passenger one I had previously used on another seat which is why there are 4 extra holes in the cross bars. Also I would have welded the bars between the side frames rather than on top of them like shown if I were to start fresh. That would probably save 3/8-1/2 inch in seat height.
The drivers side was a fresh start so I welded the cross bars at the center of the side tubes - on top would have added unwanted height to the seat cushion but you do have to have the bars somewhat up from the bottom or you wouldn't be able to insert the seat bolts.

The headrests are adjustable vertically and front/rear. They fold forward far enough so that removing the passenger seat is relatively easy. BTW, the seats are not light but seem reasonable. I think about 35 lbs or so.

At last, a set of “aftermarket” seats that look like they are meant to be in a Pinz. Great installation, now about those yellow adjusting handles… honestly looks great even with the handles.

Best wishes in the New Year :)
