abulance door seal leaks

Post by 2012 »

as i'm writing this, my door seals are leaking like a cow p!ss'n in a boot.

i can see that adding a channel section aluminum extrusion all around the inside frame would be a satisfactory labyrinth seal (more WORK), but i'm wondering if there are any amby box owners with this problem and know a good fix.

What the heck is up with the box on the suburban?

Sorry I can offer no help on this one other than mention that there is a source for replacment door seals on goatwerks.com. They are supposed to work well and be pretty cheap.

You know how with the Pinz people are always asking if it floats? I figured the structure on top of the Suburban was a pontoon so you could flip the truck over and go fishing.

upside-down barge

Post by 2012 »

seals: thanks for the lead.

barge-shaped thing on burb: i cut the roof out of the burb and welded the vertical edge of a 2x2 light angle to the inner horizontal sheet metal all around. that gave me a 2x2 horizontal rim (platform) all around the opening (edge pointed inboard). it makes an xlnt convertible. the roofs on this platform have evolved from a few epoxy coated marine plywood, to .06 aluminum that was too short, to the present .06 aluminum that is perfect. the sheets are epoxied and screwed at the edges to .09 thick angle. screws are 10-32 button heads with nuts inside, all 316 cres. when i finally got it assembled, i had it powder coated with white white white. it looks like melting ice cream.

then a girl friend and i picked it up and bolted it onto the top of the burb.

standing room is 78 inches. fans run eternally from 2 deep cycle batteries below floor level. no rain or snow gets in thru open vents. cornering and side-wind effects are barely noticable. forward drag is zero. it's completely silent on the highway. top area is insulated with polyisocyanurate foam board. you can stand on top. whole design worked out gr8 this time  .

not sure if it floats when inverted. afraid to experiment.

that may have been a sales pitch since the burb is about to go up for sale now that i have a pinz 8).
