rubber cord and clamps

Post by PinzEOD »

Just a pic to show how the cord and clamps from McMaster look. They have the cord in a couple other colors, including black, but I like the looks of the red.

3961T4 - 7/32" cord
3961T3 - 5/16" cord
54285K23 3/8 to 7/16 pinch clamp

I browsed the website and picked these from memory, I'll verify against my invoice tomorrow (it's at work). They list 4 sizes of cord, I ordered 1 foot of each for comparison and liked the 2 above sizes the best. Color choices are red, blue, black and yellow. I froze my samples for 2 days, pretty stiff but no cracking when pulled, and they return to normal stretchiness when thawed. Only time will tell on sun exposure resistance. The smaller size works nice for the split sides on a 712M.

same as always, I prefer to keep the money in the Pinz community. CWR has the cord and clamps and they are not very expensive. I have ordered the black from him for the custom top I made. The cord he has works well and has been on the truck for some time now. I also have made a second order for the solar screen top I am making for the front.
We need to support the dealers when possible.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with sourcing out common items. I deal with Mcaster Carr almost daily at work and they are one of our preferred vendors. I do support Pinz dealers, having purchased parts and equipment from several of them. A vendor missing out on a $50 order will NOT put them under. I buy my filters at NAPA, and my oil through AAFES. The idea of having to buy everything from a dealer might be one reason some folks think owning one of these beauties is tougher than it really is. The few dealers we have in the U.S. do an incredible job with the parts and service they provide, but I'd sure rather have them have inventory dollars tied up in hard parts (sorry guys) than in filters and rubber cord and metric bolts.
As someone on another thread has said....flame on.

I checked the invoice, the pinch clamp I ordered is McMaster #54105K37. $8.78 for a pack of 25. They work fine for both cord sizes.

I purchased some "O" ring material from a local bearing company. It worked well but I did not get UV resitant material. Within a couple of months the cord split and failed. When I went back they educated me and then replaced all the cord and all of what I had left with the UV resistant stuff.
