Reverse noise question

Haven't seen this one...

When backing out of the driveway in the morning, I hear a mechanical "popping" noise coming somewhere from the rear of the Pinz. The noise doesn't recur, even after sitting for a few hours, only when I start off in the morning. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Steve

Could be the parking brake releasing, or normal driveline lash.

I confer with Jim.
I have seen and experienced this problem, more than likely it's the parking brake badly adjusted or hanging up immediately upon release.

My parking brake made a "clank" noise when I released it and tried to back up. Went away after I rehabbed everything.

Thanks for the quick replies...

I really haven't used the parking brake for some time. My driveway is level, except for the last twenty feet, and that's a gentle slope.

I hear these noises while backing along the flat part.

Thanks again!

Gents
To be more specific, that transmission clunking if related to the parking brake can often be observed from outside the vehicle. Merely have a trusted driver back up the truck and observe the course adjuster rod at the park brake. If the rod (and therefore the park brake assy) is binding slightly you will see it kick or jump when the knock occurs. We place our hand on the rod assy as the truck backs up to "feel" the activity but do this only if you can trust who's behind the wheel!

when I first got my pinz I thought it was the driveline binding but after looking into it I found it was the parking brake. Does not seem to matter if I apply the parking brake or not. The only time I use my parking brake is on the trails, not a lot of elevation change in Mesa.
