OEM Door Half Seal?

Post by Bruce Berger »

I removed my door uppers for the first time today and found that the seal between the upper and lower doors was made of what appears to be oil soaked burlap. Is this what was installed at the factory? It certainly explains the problem I've been having with oil streaks on the outside of the doors when the sun beats directly on them.

Does anyone know what this stuff is and any tricks for cleaning it off?

Thanks,

No burlap was found in my truck. When the doors were removed there was a small piece of foam weatherstrip that ran the length of the window. There was lots of the rust proofing goo and it required cleaning or it gets everywhere. Perhaps the foam was gone and some Swiss soldier made a field repair to try and stop leaking?

At least I didn't have the usual problem of corroded door handle screws. The screws and upper door bolts were in great shape and came right out.

When I took off my upper doors, there was a very thin peice of rubber for the seal. I am not sure if this was original or not. It did a nice job of keeping the rubbing between them down and there was no rust.
