I had sold one out that way though it's been a long time since then. It was an untouched camo 303. The odd thing was that I didn't actually know who was buying it. I never spoke to them directly, only to a third party that would call me for them.

Not knocking volvo owners but they are a strange bunch. I have tried to get some of them to go out wheeling with me but to no avail. For all the claims about the abilities of a volvo we sure don't see them offroad, atleast here. I for one would like to see some pictures/videos of them in action.

I would love to come out wheeling with you mjnims but my new Volvo TGB13 does not like the salt water of the Atlantic Ocean :P

In fact today for me is special as it has just completed its first VOSA Test this AM which is also important for its GB registration,.

I would not like to be thought of as ordinary, so strange will do OK

Yeah I know what you mean. I don't think my pinzies want to cross the ocean again. Would be nice to see some different country though.
Hopefully we will see some pics/vids when you get a chance.

looks sharp. I have only seen one like it here. The other 6X is/was a radio truck and most likely will never see dirt again. I have seen a few 4x's but the owners won't even stop, even when I am in a pinz.
Would really like to see one of them in use, they look very beefy compared to the pinz.

My TGB is in really Very Good or Excellent condition mainly. It is one of the refurbished MKIII's, every nook an cranny and every box section having rust preserving wax injected into it by Swedish Armed Forces, the body is galvanised of course. The Photos do ot do it justice but that is Military IRR Paint for you. I have seen other C303 that looked prettier but they had military look alike silk finish camo paint that was not the real thing. IRR paint always has that dull look unless wet.

The TGB 13 is bigger overall than the equivalent Pinzgauer 712K. On paper it would be just a bit here and there. It is wider taller and longer. It also has a couple of inches perhaps more under the axles as well. I wanted this body type as it allows its self to be used as a normal car in having 7 seats all in a North South direction just like a 712K. The TGB13 has a much larger cargo area behind the rear most seats, about 6'6". This would allow even a tall person to sleep North south in the rear cargo space without having to disturb the centre transverse seating.

Over all i think that the quality is high more so than the 101 and if not greater than then the same as the Pinzgauer.

The Achilles heel of the Volvo will be rust. Not evident on mine as it has been restored, galvanised and preserved not to mention being a reserve vehicle and stored in a hanger for about 20 years. Oxidation is the biggest problem for non galvanized TGB's and that has to be taken into account for when buying so shop carefully. They pose very good value fore money and are genraly much cheaper than the equivalent Pinzgauer.

It is like any forward control vehicle of its time, and is much like the Pinzgauer in some respects even the LR 101 FC for that matter. Pilots of either would feel much at home in any of them. Having owned a 101 for 18 years and driven a Pinzgauer a bit I would say that IMHO the cab of the TGB is a little bit more comfortable than the Pinz but not much and a lot more tidy than the 101. The electric fuse panel for instance is very well laid out and very easily accessed in the field under a small removable panel in the front passenger dash. All the controls are easily at hand, things like diff locks etc are all switch operated from the front console. It is a noisy beast though, driving it on the German motorways soon had one trying to force another ear defender in. In this respect i would say it is nosier than either the Pinzgauer or the 101 when being driven at speed. The 101 being the quietest for some reason even though it has minimal sound proofing. The dash panel is car like for its time.

The Pinzgauer scores high in innovation for riding gear but the Volvo does have some neat touches. The rear transverse bench seat for instance is very easily stowed away much in a similar way to the Mercedes G-Wagon. Also as mentioned before the electronic switches for the diff locks and front axle engagement are thoughtful. The braking system is novel but I will reserve my comments untill some time has passed to allow consideration. The brakes do work wonderfully well i must add.

To me the Volvo could do with a Diesel, just as I think the other two do. On the forum that I use in Germany, which Diesel, is the biggest point of argument. Whether to just do a diesel transplant on its own or to use an Engine + Gear Box + transfer box from the same donor vehicle. Transplants considered go from 80 series Toyota Landcruiser to Landrover Defender durotork ford plant all complete with gear boxes. Even TDi engines from the BMW range are a consideration. One chap likes the Steyr M16 which is an excellent innovative and very robust engine. Some vehicles especially in Scandinavian countries have been been converted to Mercedes diesels. i am not interested in this particular engine although it does have a decent rev ceiling it is of the pre-combustion type and not very powerful or economical to run and in my view is a very poor choice. They were not much cop in the merc saloons they were put in and in the G-Wagon absolutely hopeless.

Over all i am happy with my choice. Vehicles are very much a personal thing and what is better for one may not be so for another.
