Changing the axle boot

Post by Jerbearyukon »

I have a split in one  - is it a pain to do :? . It just has a small rip in it (anyway to fix it)??

I have access to a hoist so there's no problem getting under it

The original factory ones are lots of work to replace. Get one of the split boots from SAV or EI and it only takes 15-20 minutes to replace. Don't even need a hoist, though that would be nicer than lying on your back :) . Been there, done that times 4.

axel boots

Just changed one out. Yeah, on my back in the driveway.
Not really an issue, make sure it is clean and superglue it together, go have a beer and a sandwich. By the time you are done eating it will have set up and you can push the big part over the part at the transaxel area and the small part will follow with a little help.
Put the seam at 10:00 on the passenger side or 2:00 on the drivers side. Be sure that your screw compression rings are ok and not rusted out, they are a pain to find the correct size. I got this info, part from Jim LaGuardia and part from Alex when I was in the shop at EI.

Including the beer and the sandwich it took an hour, but then, I am a slow eater.
