Will I fit????

Post by rockwood »

Newbie here. I grew up with Land Rovers including a spell in the Military. Apart from LR, aircooled Citreons have always found a home in my house. The Pinz has got me very interested.

I never was really fitted well behind the wheel of a LR 101FC so I'm wondering how well my 6ft 3ins 250lb frame will fit behind the wheel of a Pinz. Or will I be miserably uncomfortable behind the wheel?

TIA

Rockwood,

I am also 6'3" and 250 lbs (how many stone?? . ), and I have no problem fitting in. You will notice that you have to lean forward for checking traffic lights, etc if the top is on the front of the vehicle. If you have the top rolled back, then you'll be able to just look over with your height.

There are taller people than us on the forum, and they seem to get along well. There is too much fun to be had to miss out over something as over-rated as comfort!!

If you are going to do a lot of off-road, you may want to get something to protect your head though. The top of my head rests against the padded area of the roll bar. Even though it's padded, if you whack your head on it hard enough and often enough, it will begin to get aggravating. I'm talking about some serious off-roading thogh.

having owned a 101 for over 18 years I know how it fits and the Pinzgauer is no bigger or has any more room for the driver. thy are both slightly cramped and as said one needs to stoop a little bit more for the Pinzgauer.

If you are undecided you may consider viewing the Volvo C300 series. I beleive that these have more room and comfort than the Pinzgauer especially for the driver. The front widows are very much bigger and there is no need to stoop at all. In fact the front driver screen will open up in the old fashioned way and give direct cooling air through a hinged open window

All three of the Forward controls mentioned can give years of good service and enjoyment. I am now driving around in a Volvo C304 TTGB13 which is far more comfortable and roomy all round than the 101 but not as fast on the road.

Find a '67 or earlier VW Transporter to try...that's fairly close to the seating position. I had them when younger, and that was my first impression :D .

You have a couple inches on me, and about the same weight. I have a 101 Vampire, and I tend to believe your "never was really fitted well" in a 101 was a gross understatement  . Even a Haflinger is more comfortable....Honest !

Anthony's comment on the driver's room of the two by visual appearances is correct. But, by changing the ergonomics for steering wheel position, footwell depth, seat position, and other factors, SDP made the Pinz into a fairly comfortable vehicle to drive.

I am 6'2" and yes you would need to bend forward/down to see traffic lights etc... it's worth it!

If really interested, I am sure you can look at the postings on here and find someone near you, ask to come by and sit in one. Heck you can even take a test ride.

good luck!

I am 6' 7" and loving it. :D There is no problem with leg room although you do have to do a little gymnastic maneuver to go from first to second or second back to first. And yes you do have to bend forward to see traffic lights.
But owning and driving a Pinz is worth the little inconveniences.

I'm 6' and about 195 lbs and the seat isn't even all the way back for me so you shouldn't have any issues with seating. The only issue is the one that other folks are pointing out - looking up to see traffic lights when stopped at an intersection.

Wasn't there a recent post about a device (angled mirror?) that you install which helps to eliminate the twisting and bending required for "big" guys to see the traffic light????
