Auto Electric for Dummies #2

I am installing a radio in my truck. The guy I am buying the radio says I should just run leads off one battery, 12 volts. I thought I should just mount a fuse block off of my 24-12 volt converter. Who is right? What is the best way?

Go thru the converter,it will keep the batteries even
