My head unit is draining my batteries. I don't drive the pinz very often and when I don't cut the power all together my batteries die with in 2 weeks from the small amount of power that the head unit is pulling.
I have seen a few different ways to hook up a stereo head unit. One I have seen is that a small battery has been added just for the presets on the radio. How are you doing it to where your batteries are not being drained?

I used an Astron unit for my 12vdc. It has an ignition sense to turn on the inverter. For any of the other units (Semlex etc) with out that capability add a relay to an ignition sense to control the inverter. Then I came off that to a 12vdc emergency light battery (12vdc @ 6 amp hours). The preset power is hooked to the battery. The main power has a relay hooked to the ignition sense lead. Key off battery supplies the presets. key on and the inverter powers up and power is applied to the radio. In the unit I built for work there is a big 12vdc emergency light battery. I have also used multiple 6vdc batts. Just depended on what was readily available. Most of the emergency batts are agms. Hope that helps

I use a Astrodyne converter, output to a marine fuse panel (6 place) I also have a 400 watt Alpine amp that is drawing off the 12v + post of the first battery, a battery equalizer is used to keep the batteries equal in voltage, I also had my alternator rebuilt and it makes 55amps so my recovery time is very short, btw I have optima yellow tops and have yet to fully discharge them even with my big compressor set up and all my electronic gadgets.
