cracked distributer cap

i must have tightened it to firmly to the adaptor plate on the civi. kit .IT cracked right where the bolt holds it down .Is there some kind of speck for this i will just go easy on the next one. has anyone else broken one this way?

Yep, the specification is:
"Just tighten it ONE tight, not TOO tight"

yes installed a new rotor and forgot to shorten it's over all hight, I am sure Jim L. have a pic or 2 of the rotors for comparrison if your not sure, I usually just hold the rotor on a belt sander till it's at the right height.

Most of the time when we see this the adapter ring is installed first, then the cap is installed into the ring. THIS IS THE INCORRECT INSTALLATION PROCEDURE. Install the cap into the ring, then install the assembled unit onto the distributor. Might this have been the case here?
Just a little snug is all it takes......remember the caps are bakelight and will crack easily....
