Anyone know the aproximate cost of a 710K Pinz when they were new? No specific year I guess just to make it simple. Just want to know if they are the most expensive mini van.

I have an old off-road mag which had a rather well written Pinz evaluation(early'70's) as I remember, easily 3-4x the cost of a nice 4x4 truck in U.S.A. at that time. The question begs to be asked, did any get sold then?

Not bad of a price if you consider they sold them for military use. Makes you wonder what they would go for in todays dollar when you look at the cost of a Hummer or such.

Pinzgauer is now built by BAE in the South African town of Benoni:

I speak under correction, but the 716 starts at ZAR1,200,000 i.e. approx USD150,000, unfortunately not for sale to the public.

Is this 'Pinzgauer 2' that they speak of, the bigger squarer more truck like vehicle that might be more of a competitor to the Unimog troop carrier?

To my understanding BAE purchased Automotive Teknic and discontinued the production of Pinzgauer. Not an uncommon practice these days when companies are purchased by a competitor and then closed to eliminate competition.

ATL bought the licence to make the TD Pinzgauer back in the early '90s. Stewart & Stevenson bought ATL around '05-'06. Armor Holdings bought S&S (within a year), which in turn was ( shortly after) bought by BAE .
I am under the opinion that the purchase of thr Pinzgauer by an UK company saved the product up to the mid 2000s ( or it would have died in the early '90s). In those years, most of the sales seem to be to UK, or Commonwealth countries. or ones with very close ties with the UK. Remember the phrase, "Protect the Home Market"

Hmm, I wonder if we (Australia) are going to get drummed out of the Commonwealth, now that we have brought MB G Wagen's to replace our militaries Land Rover's

Yeah Peter, It's YOUR FAULT!

If Oz would have ordered Pinzys, they might have kept making them..... But noooo, you had to go buy Puchs.....the killers of the new Haffies , back in the 70's.... You should hang your head in shame

I know Dave, I TRIED to convince the Oz military to buy TD's, but they wouldn't listen...... Mind you I don't think my heart was in it when I saw that S2 Pinny they were offering.
If I've said it once, I've said 100 times...that S2 Pinny is UGLY!

And we are not too impressed with them.
They are top heavy and the military had some problems with their engine at first. When you add the sufficient armour to it; it is so heavy that the frame crack.

And most of them are getting that armour with all those IED growing everywhere in the soil of Afghanistan. I think the Taliban are quitting growing poppy and started on these.

That's okay Denis! I hope the Canadian Forces are so unhappy with them that they look to sell them to us taxpayers soon!
Mind you, I guess that would mean we are actually buying them twice!
