I have been intersted in the Pinz Gauer, but was a little confused seeing the photos of the drivers controls, i see one pedal on either side of the steering column, so whic pedal is which? it looks as if there is only a break and a clutch pedal, but that cant be right? does it not have a clutch pedal?
help me out.
Want to buy a Pinz as soon as it becomes financially feasable.
Thanks

Banana looking thing on the right is gas, going left is brake then column for the wheel then clutch. All the necessary stuff to make it go and stop.

One thing I notice when people are giving advice to new/prospective Pinzgauer owners, they never mention how SNUG the driving position is.
I,m short and not that wide and I find it more snug than a Series Landrover (Biggest criticism of landrovers was that your elbow is crammed up against the door)
I find the Pinzgauer driving position commanding, but I,m only 5 ft 6" anyone taller has their eye level near the top of the door window line and has to duck to look behind or open the door? Any aquaintance whom I have let sit in the drivers seat have said that they would find it hard to drive because they couldn,t move their elbows.
I have 40 years in Landrovers and over 30 as a truck driver and have driven them all, so I,m OK, but when I put my Pinz up for sale I was tempted to add a rider, "NOT FOR THE SERIOUSLY TALL OR WELL BUILT!" Having said that I have seen (in Pinz vids) some tall/big guys getting out of Pinzs...I guess love conquers all???

It must be love...I did not think of the pinz as snug. It is a military vehicle and not made for comfort or luxury, very much a utility vehicle. I do see your point, though. I am 5-11 and do have to scrunch a bit to see really tall things but I have to do that in my jeep and the MOG that I had before this pinz.
Just getting in and out is the biggest issue for me, it is tall by comparison to most other vehicles and I am either climbing up or jumping down. I had to put a step in the center of the wheel, but it is quieter than a MOG so I guess I am ahead on that score.
Cheers,
Morris
edit The MOG was (and still is) a 404, radio box converted to a flat bed with the ribs and a cover.

Hi Morris,
I agree about the functional aspect of a Pinzgauer driving cab, but perhaps with me it is having the window so close, I don,t find it a bother getting in and out yet (I don,t have the wheel step - though during my military service driving Landrover 101s I was glad of the step ring getting in and out of those beasts, I can tell you.
I do find the door too close when manouvering in tight spaces (and can see why so many have power steering on their " Pinz wish list").
I,m only a young 53 at the moment and still have most parts working, time will tell.
Was your Unimog a 'Round Cab'?? I have just bought a low Mileage 1300L 39,000Kms (Refurbed by the Bundesheer in 96) now the 1300L has the big square cab and I don,t find it too bad at all.
I was looking at a 900 with the round cab but the 'taller' version and was told that they are very noisy by comparison. Regards Steve

A couple of comments here.... the LR Series trucks were designed for RHD and have a lot of room on the right side of the "hump" for the driver... the LHD models are quite cramped for the driver, and pedals are offset. For anyone fairly tall ( I'm 6/1) there is little legroom and you must duck down to see out the windshield, just the same a 710/12. The windshield on the Defenders ( there IS a big difference between the Series and Defenders) is taller, and easier to see through, same as on the TRUE TD Pinzes ( 716/18 ), in which the windshield sit 1 1/2" higher.
For a taller person, the Pinz has a far more comfortable seating position for a taller person than a Series LR ( and a 101).
The steering orientation will have a lot to do with the "preceived" lateral room of the cab. When you are use to driving on one side, you become use to the confines of the arm to the door side, and when you move to the other side, the "inner" arm now has movement restrictions it didn't have before. This is especially true of narrower vehicles.

Well I still feel a bit squeezed in my Pinzgauer, it doesn,t take away the thrill of driving it, just makes me want to open the door when manouevering it. Thanks for the info Dave, I truly didn,t know about the TD and all its sucessors having taller screens. I knew about the Defender screens, but not Pinzgauers. And for Morris, My Unimog is a direct sucessor to yours, the 1300L replaced the 404...though I wouldn,t mind one of it,s sucessors the 4000 series with it,s more powerful engine and CTIS. I suppose they,ll come onto the surplus market, eventually, but I,ll be too old then.

DN,
I solved the issue of not enough space in the cab by installing removable door pins and taking off the doors when in the desert. Really gives the illusion of looooots of space.
