Cool oil change trick

Post by texas pinzgauer »

Thilo Kass told me about this yesterday and I tried it this morning when I did an oil change on the 712.

When you loosen up the filter enough to where it can be loosened by hand, take a big (enough) plastic bag and slip it over the filter so that when you then loosen it up completely, the oil in the filter runs into the plastic bag, not all over your engine and shop floor or driveway. :(

It worked like a charm! :)

oil change trick

I'll try that. I've been using a rag under it, between the filter and the engine but still get oil spilled over the thing. Once I forgot and tipped it down and not up...big mess.

Thanks

Good idea. I usually use heavy oven foil shaped into a pan under the filter. Same for hub maintenance tape the foil to the casting under the drain plug and shape it to funnel the oil to the drain pan. Will have to add the plastic bag to my routine.
