I've had R/C cars in the past and they were tons of fun BUT, everytime we'd take it or them out to play, something would break. Everytime, something breaks. It's like an annuity for the hobby shop guys.
Perhaps a better analogy is a drug dealer who gives you your first taste for free. After that, you're addicted and the expense just zooms out of control.
