Pinzgauers in Virginia peninsula area? (Or Richmond, DC, NC)

Post by bryant.cw »

Is there anyone in the area that would talk pinzys with me and let me take a look at one? I live in Newport News, but would be more than willing to travel an hour or two to meet up.

To give you some background, I am moving to Anchorage, Alaska on military orders this fall. I am very excited about it, but realized my Honda S2000 probably isn't the ideal vehicle. I am married so having 2 cars, one of them can be less 'practical' and I can still do everything I need to. I was researching Land Cruisers so that I could have some fun off-roading, and generally not be stopped by any amount of snow, when I stumbled across the pinz. While the land cruisers are great, they aren't quite a pinz are they? I have always driven cool cars, and this would pretty much be over the top. Needless to say I am more than curious.

It's not terribly sane to buy a vehicle from one of the online dealers and have it transported here, without having ever driven one.

They are truly awesome, no doubt, but is it really practical as a daily driver? I would just have a short commute to and from work, errands in town, and the occasional camping/hiking/fishing/ski trail/4x4 type of weekend trip. I am a mechanic in the Air Force, so maintenance doesn't scare me, as long as it is reasonable. I would expect to get pretty good service out of a vehicle such as this.

Thanks for taking the time, and I hope someone is able to help me out here!

Im in Northern Virginia with both a 710 and a 712. Either is for sale. I'll be in OBX next weekend.

Youre welcome to take one for a test drive if you're ever up by the capital.

To answer your question: I would not want to run my Pinz as a daily driver. Fun, yes. Comfortable, no. I simply wouldnt want to put the wear and tear on a vehicle i love so much. Get yourself a decent pickup or AWD as a daily driver (parts are easily available) and save the Pinz for occasional fun

That would be awesome. Will you be around this coming friday? I could be there before noon, or whatever you want to do. I took it to mean that you won't be bringing either pinz to OBX this weekend, but if you are still in DC on Friday it could work for me.

Driving in anchorage I wouldn't be doing much driving, and would take the wife's car most places if the trip was long. Just short trips, or out for some 4 wheeling. They just look like a blast, and I'd love to drive something so unique and capable.

Hope to hear back, thanks again for your time.

This friday I will have the 712 loaded on the trailer. We leave for OBX mid afternoon but I have to work. I will be back Monday.

I just started the 710 after it sat for 4 months. Its running a little rough (guessing bad gas) so I'll need to play with that one a bit to get it up to normal spec.
