Thinking about selling the 712M

I don't know if I'm getting as much use out of the Pinz as I would like so I'm considering selling it if I can strike a deal at the right price.

I've owned this one for about 3 years and had an equally exceptional 710M for a number of years that I bought from Thilo Kass in Prescott, AZ. I'm one of those guys who is an advocate for buying the nicest example (of whatever) versus buying them in boxes and then fixing them up. I want to enjoy driving it, not scraping rust off of it....but that's just me.

As such, this 712M generated a huge amount of interest when it was listed on eBay several years ago. It had been built by Brian Mason of Expedition Imports fame (if you can call it). He's one of those guys whose reputation in the Pinzgauer world is unassailable. It was in excellent conditon when I bought it and it's even better now.

Wow.... This is stunningly bad news.. For two reasons: 1) I don't want you to leave the Texas Pinzgauer group, and 2) I can't afford to buy your beautiful pinz from you.

This is a seriously beautiful Pinzgauer, well done and well maintained. It is worth far more than David will ask for it.

That was part of the thinking. If Scott can get nearly $50K for his...mine has be worth...something close, right?

Actually with the weather having turned cooler here FINALLY, I'm really inclinded ot hang on to it unless the Sultan of Brunai's nephew knocks on the door and begs me to sell it to him at some outragous number.

I personally would love to have a 712K, particularly one of those Austrian refurbs, but the asking price is just crazy. For me anyway. Over 2x what my Austrian 710K with the same stuff. That's $10K per extra wheel.

I think a K would be very challenging to live with in this environment. Way too hot most of the year. They do look cool though!

The 712k bought off E Bay was worth every penny. I worked on it and It now has A/C and a37 gallon fuel capacity. I have never seen a more perfect example of a rare bird in its prime. Even the best of the modified 712m's will have a hard time meeting the value of the few Scott found.

Either way both Austrian refurbs for big $ and on my wish list.

A factory rebuild (and upgrade) is a LOT different then just a mechanics rebuild even if it was a fame off and a super mechanic!
The factory rebuild would demand a serious premium.
Imagine a 2 AC Shelby Cobras
1st one rebuilt from the ground up by Bob from Iowa
2nd one rebuilt by AC Cars
Which one do you think will go for at least 2-3 times the other one!?!

Not knowing Bob from Iowa, and risking extreme violation of political correctness in 2012.......this really compares apples and oranges.

Here's another way of thinking about it:
1: Rebuilt by union workers with a guaranteed pension, and protected job in a foreign country, or:
2: Independent business owner Jim LaGuardia at Goatwerks, or Scott at EI who's continued income depends on their knowledge and expertise in the repair and rebuild of these trucks. Their financial success depends on their results, and are directly responsible to their customers. They support the local economy and are a phone call away for advice and service. And, as far as attention to total rebuild, have you seen Prof. Pinz's gallery of 712/718 rebuild in Austrailia, or the fellow who took apart and rebuilt his 710K in Brazil?

I'll grant you that #1 has readily available parts and expensive factory equipment.
I'll go with option 2.
