Got me some goodies!!

Post by berger »

I just got back from Ogdensburg, NY, where I had my EI muffler, shocks and NATO can spout shipped.

The muffler tool a knock on the rear mount....kinda annoying....but the body is fine. I have since bent it out. I want to paint it before installation.

My goal is to paint as much as I can under the body and blackout anything visible.

I think it was time...

My heat shield is rusted out, but I am going to leave it for now.

I am not sure if I will do the shocks this weekend, as I have a trail run in Sunday.

Nice!!!! New Goodies are always a good time!!
I'd save the flange off the old muffler might be useable for fitting a different muffler for somebody. I'd paint the shocks also. I did this on my lifted pick up as I hated the look of the white shocks and it would be moreso on the pinz

Thinking the same thing! Going to cut the front flange and rear mount.

new goodies for the Pinz is probably one of the best times.

I put some of the new doetsch 8132 shocks on my 712. Seem to do OK. No real noticeable difference between them and the original Rancho 9000 liquid filled shocks. I changed as I would not put the nitrogen filled ranchos on a truck as heavy as the pinz. So far they have done well holding up to the offroading I have done. I have a little over 17K miles on them so far this year and a lot of that has been on the trails. Time will tell how well they hold up.

Wow! 17k miles this year!?!? My shocks appear to be original, so it should be an improvement. My fear now is stripped bots...which is why I have been spraying them for a few days now.

yep 17K and 33 nights in the truck so far this year. This summer my spare engine gets a new top end so I can bring some "zip" back into the old girl. I don't understand the owners who worry about a simple 2K drive in their trucks. If they are running good and all the maintenance is up to date these old trucks will perform wonders, just not at break neck speeds. With the summer heat coming I will not be getting out as much but still have plans to hit the trails. thank goodness for the swamp cooler I made for my truck, makes the heat somewhat bearable.

I am curious to hear first hand how the Doetsch shocks work on a 710. I have a couple of the older model that I have been less then impressed with. Have had to rebuild them at least once a year on my 710 and I only get a few thousand miles a year on it.

I hope I don't need to replace these that quickly. I will be pissed and I won't buy them again if that is the case. I need to do some seal maintenance soon, but I just keep filling the portals with oil to compensate. I bought this truck to drive offroad....not baby.

Doetsch has told me they have not had the failures with the 8132 shocks that they had with the rebuildable design. So far that has proven to be the results I am getting on my 712. Really want to see what happens on the 710. I am getting pretty good at the seals, seems they do like to fail every 7-10K miles or so.

Installed the muffler this morning. Everything lined up as it should. I know my old muffler was rotten, but other than the popping because of holes, it sounded ok....this sounds MUCH better!

I left the tail pipe raw, but I may paint it later.

I've got a couple of the shocks on order, hope to have them in right after the front end is re installed. They should be a heck of a lot better than the originals
