Canada did the same with a lot of our Iltis. We also transitioned to the G-Wagon while over there.

SOP. Cheaper (in most cases) than shipping stuff back home, refurbishing, and re-issuing to the force.

It's a racket. BAE, General Dynamics, American General and Oshkosh get their piece of our tax flesh, and the politicians in their districts get their lobbyist money. DoD gets a bigger budget and new toys.Cheaper (in most cases)
