Has anyone installed the Swiss Style LED tailights from SAV? I am not a huge fan of the newer bar light from the Diesel Pinz, and these look like a great compromise.

Those sure look nice, might be time for an upgrade.

Like a dumbass....when I replaced the DS rear panel, I forgot to re-insert the rubber grommet on the light when reassembling. Took the truck out this past weekend and noticed the rear lights were not working. Opened up the DS tailight and it was FULL of corrosion. Figured I would replace both.

Forgot to mention you need the new flasher unit for these.

I didn't like the TD lights either - your rear tire ends up hitting them as well and can break the left one if you don't adjust the door stop!
Only posting these as they are another LED option and include reverse lights
I went with the JW Speaker Model 265 based on Chris' post

For me they were IMO the cleanest install but you do have to cut a hole.

Just my $.02 but the stock OEM original lights have more character
than any of the LED lights I've seen. Unless you are trying to save
AMPs or increase brightness, I'd stay with the originals.

I just came across those Speaker 265's on ebay at a great price - $19.99 each ! They seem to be the same :?:

You would have to find the correct plug and make a connector for it.

The original lights provide poor visibility for following drivers which is why many of us have changed ours. Hella makes a "cheeseburger" style combo light that looks similar to the LED units but uses filament bulbs.

They are larger than original but provide plenty of visibility. No reverse bulb though.

Trying to save money....too. A single OEM replacement for the Pinz is $85US, plus shipping, so two, would be more that the LED set. That also doesn't include the bulbs, which I would need. The lack of bulb requirement, IMO, is a big factor too, as it gets to be a pain having to ship 24v bulbs from the US.

Excellent! SAV sells something similar for $26.50US, plus shipping. Issue for me is still bulb sourcing.

Wow!!
That is a deal - normally go for a LOT more than that! I may buy some at that price just in case I bust one of my lenses!
Only issue I see with the ebay one's are that they all seem to be LH model (but you can always just rotate them - wiring would just be in different spot) and no wiring harness comes with them.

Ok Back on Topic for Derek...
I like the round LED ones the best and the flasher's are cheap on ebay

I installed the $26 SAV standard filament "Cheeseburgers" last year and they are great. They were an easy and direct fit. The way they are wired, the amber light goes unused; I intend to wire those up to an additional flasher module and have yellow flashers for when I'm freeway driving or on hills.

I am very happy with them and I feel that they maintain a classic / pseudo-stock look.

Edit...I wanted to mention that I feel it's very important to have red brake lights, at least where I live; this was the primary factor that influenced me to upgrade. I used to be terrified that I would get rear-ended because of the amber brake lights and now it's one less thing for me to worry about.

don't mistake the two types of lights shown here. The ones that SAV sells for around $30 are not the same lights that SAV sells for $128 a set. The $128 a set lights are GREAT! One of our members has them and you can see his truck from very long ranges. The brake lights are MUCH brighter then the lesser expensive set. Both are better then the original for lighting.

I mounted Truck-Lite M838s on my truck.

LED, same diameter as stock ("cheesburgers" are larger) and almost the same setup as stock (red over amber). They are not exactly cheap but LED lights never are...

I had installed new all-red LED truck combo tail / brake lights units into the original Pinzgauer housing - it worked well but the view of them off angle was limited. Looked more like the originals.

You don't need to change the flasher if you are only upgrading the rear lights - they front filament bulbs provide the load on the original non-electronic type flasher.

Ah - you are correct, good point!
