Stainless Steel "Rear Exit" Mufflers in Production

Hi Guys,

We had the manufacturer run a limited batch of the Rear Exit stainless mufflers as used on the Austrian Pinzgauers. Drop me a line if you need one as they are now in stock.

Same muffler design/quality, just instead of a side exit, the muffler has a rear exit. Ideal for those re-routing there exhausts to the rear of the vehicle. The Austrian version DOES NOT come with the rear pipes, just the muffler itself.

Cheers,

Scott

Does a portion of the pipe stick out the rear to attach a tail pipe to? Same configuration in the front (engine side)?

Does this rear exit muffler also come with the tail pipe and hanger?
I do like the idea of going rear exhaust -- significant noise reduction.

I think he covered that.

Any muffler shop could fabricate a tailpipe, that's how mine was made. 9 years later it is still holding up well.

I have a question for those who have run their exhaust all the way out the rear. Is there any issue with exhaust sucking back into the rear area from the low pressure created from the moving vehicle? Also. where exactly does the pipe exit the rear and at what angle.

Thanks

Yes, have had issue with my 710m suck in exhaust from the rear. A k wouldnt have much of an issue.

I also run 95% on road at road speeds, so my scenario may be different

At speed all Pinzgauers have a vacuum bubble on either front door as the air from the front rushes sideways to get out the the way of the truck; the doors are being sucked outwards (ever try re-closing the front doors when moving at speed?). With this vacuum, especially if you run with a front window open even an inch, the air inside gets sucked out. This has to be replaced with something and that something usually comes from the rear -- meaning exhaust fumes are part of it.

In the summer, we run our M with the sides rolled up so there is no vacuum inside, so no fumes get sucked in. Closed up, we run with the fan on to try to pressurize the inside, keeping fumes out (mostly out) and keeping the front windows closed. Side exhaust or rear exhaust, fumes can enter. There are things you can do to help prevent them from entering, and things you can do that make it worse. I really don't think you can make the truck fume free under all circumstances by any routing of the exhaust unless you choose a 12' high vertical stack.

Could a catalytic converter be added to reduce the fume smell? It would have to go in front of the muffler, so I doubt that it is possible. Just a thought.

A catalytic converter is supposed to take remaining carbon monoxide and finish burning the remaining unburned fuel, thus converting it to carbon dioxide. That's that dangerous greenhouse gas the government mandated all newer vehicles produce. It might help with the fumes. Sarcasm anymore?

A cat is just meant to do the final clean-up of the exhaust. A Pinz is just to "dirty" for that application. The cat would melt down internally and plug up. :(

Ever since installing the Pinz SSI ignition I've noticed a huge decrease in exhaust fumes both at idle and on the road. There is still some but nowhere near as noticeable.
